mcp-server-maintenance

mcp-server-maintenance is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from amirtaherkhani/dev-io-mcp. It costs 0 tokens per session (260 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

Maintenance instructions for an MCP server, a program that makes tools and data available to an AI assistant. They cover tool names, resource addresses, input validation, storage safety, diagnostics, documentation, and tests.

In plain words
What is it for?
They apply when changing the server's tools, data resources, network connection method, input formats, or other behavior.
Why use it?
They help developers change the server without silently breaking clients or exposing files through unsafe paths.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00260
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00130
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00052
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00026

Security

Grade A, and why

mcp-server-maintenance scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

MCP Server Maintenance

Use this skill when changing tools, resources, transport, schemas, or server behavior.

Contracts

Do not rename or silently change the meaning of existing tools:

  • publish_post
  • list_posts
  • read_post
  • get_post_info
  • record_post_event

Do not change these resource URIs without updating all documentation and host configuration:

  • dev-io://post-template
  • dev-io://posts
  • dev-io://posts/metrics

Implementation rules

  • Use the official @modelcontextprotocol/sdk package already declared in package.json.
  • Keep schemas explicit and validate user-controlled arguments.
  • Preserve the posts/ path traversal protection.
  • Return MCP content with concise, machine-readable JSON for data tools.
  • Keep diagnostics on stderr so HTTP protocol responses remain machine-readable.
  • Keep local filesystem behavior independent from the optional remote adapter.

Change checklist

  • Update README.md when a tool, resource, environment variable, or host configuration changes.
  • Update docs/skills.md or docs/roles.md when project responsibilities change.
  • Add or update a smoke test for changed MCP behavior.
  • Run npm run lint and npm run build.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
