groove-utilities-memory-log-daily

groove-utilities-memory-log-daily is a skill for Claude Code from andreadellacorte/groove. It costs 26 tokens per session (490 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A daily project journal entry stored in a dated Markdown file. It records what was completed, changed in Git, learned, and carried forward.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to close out a coding day, summarize completed tasks and changed files, record lessons, and list unfinished work for tomorrow.
Why use it?
It prevents end-of-day work from being forgotten and gives the next day a clear record of what happened. Existing notes are updated instead of replaced.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00026 $0.00490
Opus 5 $0.00013 $0.00245
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00098
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00049

Security

Grade A, and why

groove-utilities-memory-log-daily scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

groove-utilities-memory-log-daily

Outcome

.groove/memory/daily/YYYY-MM-DD.md is created or updated with a structured end entry. The file may already exist from daily start (start-of-day structure); if so, append the closeout sections. The file is written so that the next daily start can verify yesterday had an end.

Acceptance Criteria

  • File exists at .groove/memory/daily/YYYY-MM-DD.md after command completes
  • "Done today" section contains granular multi-level bullets sourced from completed tasks and git diff
  • Git section summarises commits and changed files for the day
  • Tasks section shows task summary by status
  • Learnings section is populated (not blank)
  • Open/Next section captures carry-forward items
  • If file already exists, content is updated/appended rather than overwritten

Constraints

  • Memory path is always .groove/memory/
  • Write at daily end only — never called at daily start. File may already exist from daily start; append closeout sections rather than overwriting.
  • "Done today" must be sourced from: completed tasks (date-matched) and git diff output — not from incomplete work
  • Pending capture: if .groove/.cache/pending-capture.md exists (staged by the session-capture Stop hook), use it to pre-fill the "Done today" and "Git" sections — its commits/working-changes are the raw material, so the user reviews and edits a draft rather than starting blank. After the daily log is written successfully, delete .groove/.cache/pending-capture.md.
  • If a completed task has no resolution in its body, ask user for a summary before writing the bullet
  • Use template at skills/groove-utilities-memory-log-daily/templates/daily.md for file structure
  • If the directory .groove/memory/daily/ does not exist, create it before writing
  • Vague entries ("worked on stuff") should trigger a clarification ask before writing
Files

What ships with it

1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
