AID Install-Tree Generator

Maintainer-only skill — outside canonical/. This is the lone exception to the canonical-source pattern. It lives at .claude/skills/generate-profile/ only and is NOT in canonical/skills/. Edits to this skill are made directly to its files. Reason: it generates the install trees, so it cannot itself be generated from canonical without a chicken-and-egg deployment problem.

This skill regenerates the five install trees (claude-code/, codex/, cursor/, copilot-cli/, antigravity/) from the single canonical source (canonical/) and the per-tool profiles (profiles/).

When to run: any time a canonical skill, agent, or template is edited, and before committing changes to the install trees. Also run to verify the install trees are in sync with canonical after any manual edits.

Safety boundary: the generator only writes to and deletes files it previously emitted (recorded in profiles/{tool}/emission-manifest.jsonl). User-created files inside install trees are never touched.


Pre-flight Checks

Before executing any state, verify:

  1. Python 3.11+ is available:

    python --version
    

    Required for tomllib (stdlib from 3.11). Abort with clear error if unavailable.

  2. canonical/ directory exists at the repo root:

    ls canonical/agents/ canonical/skills/ canonical/aid/templates/ canonical/rules/
    
  3. At least one profile TOML exists:

    ls profiles/
    
  4. The repo is a git working tree (for the REPORT git diff --stat):

If any pre-flight check fails, print an error and stop.


State Detection

Parse arguments from the invocation context:

  • --tool {claude-code|codex|cursor|copilot-cli|antigravity} → set SELECTED_PROFILES to the single named profile. If not provided, SELECTED_PROFILES = [claude-code, codex, cursor, copilot-cli, antigravity] (all profiles found via ls profiles/*.toml).
  • --dry-run → set DRY_RUN=true. In dry-run mode, renderers write to a temporary scratch directory; no changes are made to the install trees. A diff report is printed at the end instead of a live manifest write.
