nomnoml

nomnoml is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from antoinebou12/uml-mcp. It costs 57 tokens per session (566 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A writing guide for nomnoml, a short notation for UML-style diagrams that show software structures and relationships.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to describe nodes, links, UML roles, and visual settings for class or system diagrams, then pass the source to the uml-mcp validation or image-generation tools.
Why use it?
It gives you the required syntax for nomnoml so an uml-mcp diagram tool can process the source correctly.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00057 $0.00566
Opus 5.5 $0.00023 $0.00226
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00011 $0.00113
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00057

Security

Grade A, and why

nomnoml scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 14d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

UML-style diagrams from shorthand syntax

Load the workflow skill uml-mcp-diagrams for URL-first replies, progressive discovery, and which MCP tool to call. This file is notation only; it does not add an MCP tool.

Notation tips

  • Directive lines start with # (#direction: down, #fill: #eee8d5, #stroke: #33322E, #lineWidth: 2, #padding: 12, #fontSize: 14).
  • Nodes are [Label]; edges ->, <->, --; classifiers [<actor> User], [<database> DB], [<package> P].
  • One vertical stack (#direction: down) reads better in chat thumbnails.
  • Prefer warm fill + dark stroke (Solarized-ish) so labels stay legible after PNG.

Styling

  • Directives: #fill, #stroke, #lineWidth, #fontSize, #padding.
  • No MCP theme param — set colors in the source.

Starter template

#direction: down
[A] -> [B]
[B] -> [C]

Example

#stroke: #33322E
#fill: #eee8d5
#direction: down
[Client] -> [UML MCP]
[UML MCP] -> [Kroki]
[Kroki] -> [Artifact]

Render with uml-mcp

  1. Set diagram_type to nomnoml exactly.
  2. Call validate_uml when the source is untrusted (prefer strict: true for Mermaid sequence).
  3. Call generate_uml, generate_uml_image (chat PNG), or generate_uml_batch.
  4. Pass theme when this skill's Themes section lists supported values.
  5. Surface the returned url / playground (see the workflow skill).

Confirm formats with uml://formats or list_diagram_types when unsure.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
