Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |

Grade A, and why
mint-api-key scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 56 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
Mint an appium-mcp-auth API key
Produce a bearer API key for a caller and the JSON record to add to
APPIUM_MCP_AUTH_API_KEYS. The server stores only the SHA-256 hash of the
secret; the caller presents the full ak_<id>_<secret> credential.
Steps
-
Determine the inputs (ask only if not given):
id— short, unique, no underscores (e.g.ci,qa-bot,alice).subject— stable identity string used for ownership/rate-limit keys.kind—service(machines/CI) oruser(humans). Defaultservice.scopes— e.g.["appium:use"]. Give services and humans distinct scopes.- optional
roles(e.g.["admin"]bypasses scope checks) andexpiresAt(epoch ms).
-
Generate a random secret and its hash, then print the credential and record. Run this (substitute the chosen values):
node -e ' const crypto = require("crypto"); const id = process.argv[1], subject = process.argv[2]; const kind = process.argv[3] || "service"; const scopes = JSON.parse(process.argv[4] || "[]"); const secret = crypto.randomBytes(24).toString("base64url"); const hash = crypto.createHash("sha256").update(secret).digest("hex"); console.log("CREDENTIAL (give to caller, store securely):"); console.log(" ak_" + id + "_" + secret); console.log("\nRECORD (add to APPIUM_MCP_AUTH_API_KEYS array):"); console.log(JSON.stringify({ id, hash, subject, kind, scopes }, null, 2)); ' "<id>" "<subject>" "<kind>" '["appium:use"]' -
Present two things clearly:
- The credential
ak_<id>_<secret>— tell the user this is shown once and to store it in their secret manager; the server never sees the plaintext. - The record (with
hash, notsecret) to append to theAPPIUM_MCP_AUTH_API_KEYSJSON array in their env /.env.
- The credential
Rules
- Prefer
hashin committed/production config, neversecret(plaintextsecretis only a dev convenience thatconfig.tshashes at load). idmust not contain_(the parser splitsak_<id>_<secret>at the first underscore after the prefix). The secret may contain_.- Do not write real secrets into files under version control. If updating a
local
.env, confirm it is git-ignored first. - For rotation: add the new record, have the caller switch, then remove the old
record (or set
"disabled": true) — don't reuse the sameid.
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

mint-api-key is a skill published in the GitHub repository appclawhq/appium-mcp-auth (5 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 72 tokens to every session and 732 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
