prior-art-analysis

prior-art-analysis is a skill for Claude Code from arcprime-ip/patent-prompts. It costs 40 tokens per session (269 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A patent-analysis helper that compares patent claims with earlier published work, called prior art. It uses United States legal tests for novelty and obviousness.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps analyze independent patent claims, assess novelty, evaluate obviousness, and review known or newly found prior-art references.
Why use it?
It organizes the legal analysis needed to assess whether a claim is new or would have been obvious based on earlier disclosures. It can also use web search to find relevant references.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00040 $0.00269
Opus 5 $0.00020 $0.00134
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00054
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00027

Security

Grade A, and why

prior-art-analysis scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Prior Art Analysis

Analyze independent patent claims against prior art using the full 35 U.S.C. 102 (anticipation) and 103 (obviousness) framework, including Graham v. John Deere factors and KSR rationales.

This skill benefits from web search to find relevant prior art references.

Instructions

  1. Read the prompt file at ${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/../../pre-filing/prior-art-analysis/prompt.md
  2. Extract the prompt section (between the --- delimiters)
  3. Ask the user for the required inputs if not already provided via $ARGUMENTS:
    • Patent claims (independent claims to analyze)
    • Known prior art (optional)
    • Web search results (optional, or use web search tool if available)
  4. Fill in the {{PLACEHOLDER}} values with the user's content
  5. If web search is available, search for relevant prior art references
  6. Execute the prompt to perform the analysis
  7. Present the output to the user
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

prior-art-analysis is a skill published in the GitHub repository arcprime-ip/patent-prompts (20 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 40 tokens to every session and 269 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
