openinference: Skill for Claude Code

.agents/skills/openinference-typescript/SKILL.md

openinference-typescript is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Arize-ai/openinference. It costs 38 tokens per session (304 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A set of rules for writing TypeScript, a programming language that adds type checking to JavaScript. It covers naming, function design, types, state handling, and reuse of existing utilities.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it whenever you write, review, or modify TypeScript packages, examples, or tests in this repository.
Why use it?
It helps TypeScript changes fit the repository's conventions and avoids unsafe or hard-to-maintain code. It also directs the agent to check related packages before adding new helpers.

About the project

OpenInference is a set of conventions and instrumentation plugins for tracing AI applications with OpenTelemetry. It helps developers record language-model calls, retrieval from vector stores, and external tool use for analysis in compatible observability backends. The catalogue entries support instrumentation and use of these tracing conventions.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00038 $0.00304
Opus 5.5 $0.00015 $0.00122
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00061
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00030

Security

Grade A, and why

openinference-typescript scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

OpenInference TypeScript Conventions

Follow existing patterns in the package you're editing (see js/AGENTS.md), plus:

Naming

  • No single-letter variables, including loop counters (index, span, chunk).
  • Booleans use verb prefixes: isStreaming, hasError, shouldMask.
  • Functions start with a verb: getAttributes, parseResponse, buildSpanName.
  • Extract complex conditions into named booleans.

Functions

  • 2+ parameters → a single destructured object, documented with JSDoc @param params.foo.
  • Prefer composition over inheritance, and pure transforms over mutation.
  • Don't read ambient state (Date.now(), config singletons, module constants) deep inside utilities; expose it as an optional param defaulting to a DEFAULT_* constant.

Types

  • No any; use unknown and narrow with type guards. If any is unavoidable, comment why.
  • Sparse lookup maps must allow undefined: Partial<Record<K, V>> (most packages don't enable noUncheckedIndexedAccess).

Reuse

Check @arizeai/openinference-core and sibling packages for existing utilities before writing helpers or adding dependencies.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

openinference-typescript is a skill published in the GitHub repository Arize-ai/openinference (1,291 stars, last pushed today), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 38 tokens to every session and 304 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-24.
