statusline-setup

statusline-setup is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from artem-from-ua/claude-plugins. It costs 28 tokens per session (412 once invoked), scanned B, original, MIT.

A setup command for a Claude Code status line, the small information bar shown during a session. It configures a script that displays project, Git, model, context-window, and usage-limit information.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to install and connect the status-line script to Claude Code settings, or update an existing status-line configuration.
Why use it?
It puts session and project information in view without requiring separate commands or dashboards. This helps you notice the current branch, unsaved Git changes, context usage, and rate-limit progress.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00028 $0.00412
Opus 5 $0.00014 $0.00206
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00082
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00041

Security

Grade B, and why

statusline-setup scanned grade B with 2 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

.claude/, .codex/, .gemini/ hold keys, settings and other credentials a mod has no legitimate need for.

2. Read the user's `~/.claude/settings.json` to check if `statusLine` is already configured.

What it actually says

Statusline Setup

Configure the Claude Code custom statusline with API rate limits, context window usage, git branch, and model info.

Instructions

  1. Check if ~/.claude/statusline.sh exists. If not, copy it from the plugin:

    cp "$(dirname "$0")/../../scripts/statusline.sh" ~/.claude/statusline.sh
    chmod +x ~/.claude/statusline.sh

  2. Read the user's ~/.claude/settings.json to check if statusLine is already configured.

  3. If statusLine is already configured:

    • Show the current configuration
    • Ask if they want to update it
  4. If statusLine is NOT configured (or user wants to update):

    • Add or update the statusLine field in ~/.claude/settings.json:
      {
        "statusLine": {
          "type": "command",
          "command": "~/.claude/statusline.sh"
        }
      }

    • Preserve all other existing settings in the file
  5. Confirm the setup is complete and explain what the statusline shows:

    • 📁 Current directory
    • 🌿 Git branch (yellow when dirty)
    • 🤖 Model name (color-coded: Opus=red, Sonnet=green, Haiku=blue)
    • 📚 Context window usage (yellow ≥60%, red ≥80%)
    • ⏳ 5-hour rate limit with progress bar
    • 📅 7-day rate limit with progress bar
  6. Note: The statusline requires jq and curl to be installed. Check if they're available and warn if not.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

statusline-setup is a skill published in the GitHub repository artem-from-ua/claude-plugins (11 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 28 tokens to every session and 412 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it B with 2 findings (reads agent configuration directories, makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
