vibe-parallel-task-decomposition

vibe-parallel-task-decomposition is a skill for Claude Code from ash1794/vibe-engineering. It costs 65 tokens per session (723 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A task-planning method that finds independent pieces of a large job and arranges them in dependency order. It shows which pieces can be worked on at the same time.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to break a large implementation into parallel batches and decide the safest amount of concurrent work.
Why use it?
It prevents unnecessary waiting when tasks do not depend on one another, while avoiding conflicts between tasks that share files or outputs.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00065 $0.00723
Opus 5.5 $0.00026 $0.00289
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00145
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00072

Security

Grade A, and why

vibe-parallel-task-decomposition scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

vibe-parallel-task-decomposition

Large tasks are often collections of independent subtasks hiding behind a sequential mental model. Find the parallelism.

When to Use This Skill

  • Facing a task with 5+ subtasks
  • Multiple files need changes that don't depend on each other
  • Implementation plan has steps that could run concurrently
  • User asks to "speed this up" or "parallelize"

When NOT to Use This Skill

  • Tasks with fewer than 3 subtasks
  • All subtasks depend on each other sequentially
  • Changes are all in the same file
  • The overhead of coordination exceeds the benefit
  • Long-running, multi-phase work with follow-ups (use vibe-workstream-orchestration)

Steps

  1. List all subtasks from the plan or requirements

  2. Build dependency graph — For each pair of tasks, ask:

    • Do they modify the same file? → dependent
    • Does task B need output from task A? → dependent
    • Do they share mutable state? → dependent
    • Otherwise → independent (can parallelize)
  3. Group into batches:

    • Batch 0: Tasks with no dependencies (run first, in parallel)
    • Batch 1: Tasks that depend only on Batch 0 (run after Batch 0, in parallel)
    • Batch N: Continue until all tasks assigned
  4. Set parallelism limit — Use the harness's native parallelism (subagents, background tasks, workflows, or cloud tasks) and respect its concurrency limits. Past a handful of concurrent streams, the integration and review cost usually outweighs the speedup, so 3–5 is a sensible default unless the tasks are trivially independent.

  5. Isolate — Give each parallel stream its own worktree or branch if the harness supports isolation, so streams can't overwrite each other's files. Integrate afterwards with vibe-cherry-pick-integration.

  6. Create dispatch plan:

Parallel Task Decomposition

Total Tasks: X Batches: Y Max Parallelism: Z agents Estimated Speedup: ~Nx vs sequential

Dependency Graph

Task A ──→ Task D
Task B ──→ Task D
Task C (independent)
Task D ──→ Task F
Task E (independent)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

vibe-parallel-task-decomposition is a skill published in the GitHub repository ash1794/vibe-engineering (164 stars, last pushed 12d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 65 tokens to every session and 723 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-26.
