user-journey-mapper

user-journey-mapper is a skill for Codex from ashermahonin/agentic-skills. It costs 87 tokens per session (516 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for mapping how a person, operator, or external system moves through a product workflow. It documents the trigger, main and alternate paths, failures, expected outcome, and which part of the release should contain the work.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create or clarify user journeys, story maps, interaction flows, acceptance scenarios, failure paths, and links between user needs and implementation tasks.
Why use it?
It turns vague product ideas into concrete flows that can be split into requirements, tasks, tests, and release slices. It also exposes unclear interactions and out-of-scope work early.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00087 $0.00516
Opus 5 $0.00044 $0.00258
Sonnet 5 $0.00017 $0.00103
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00052

Security

Grade A, and why

user-journey-mapper scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

User Journey Mapper

Purpose

Turn product intent and architecture constraints into concrete user journeys that can be decomposed safely. Keep the work practical: who acts, what triggers the flow, what happens next, what fails, and which release slice should carry the value first.

Inputs

  • Identify the primary user, operator, or external actor.
  • Collect product scope, requirements, domain findings, and architecture constraints.
  • Name the main journey, alternate journeys, and failure journeys.
  • Check whether 09-user-story-map.md and 10-user-journeys.md already exist and should be updated.

Decision process

  1. Build a story map using activities, steps, details, and release slices.
  2. Write user journeys with trigger, main flow, alternate flow, failure flow, and expected outcome.
  3. Connect each journey to requirements, quality scenarios, risks, and architecture constraints.
  4. Mark unclear interactions that need user clarification before decomposition.
  5. Identify which journeys are MVP, later phase, or explicitly out of scope.
  6. Hand off only journeys that are concrete enough to become epics, stories, tasks, and validation scenarios.

Decision boundaries

  • Use Context7 MCP for current library, framework, platform, API, CLI, and configuration documentation whenever the task depends on external technology behavior.

Decision record

  • User story map
  • User journey list
  • Alternate and failure flow notes
  • Release slicing notes
  • Journey-to-requirement links
  • Decomposition handoff notes

Ready when

  • Do not describe generic personas without a concrete action path.
  • Do not create tasks until the journey has trigger, outcome, and acceptance signal.
  • Keep failure paths visible, especially permissions, empty states, integration failures, and recovery.
  • Link journeys to requirements and risks so Obsidian Graph remains useful.

Handoff

Hand off journey IDs, release slices, acceptance signals, risks, and unresolved interaction questions to decompose-work.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
