hono

hono is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from ashish7802/awesome-api-skills. It costs 0 tokens per session (495 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to Hono, a web framework for building APIs and web applications that run on edge services such as Cloudflare Workers, Deno, or Bun.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for Hono setup, production patterns, error handling, security middleware, scaling, and sharing route types with a frontend.
Why use it?
It explains how to write Hono code using standard web requests and responses rather than Node.js-specific methods.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00495
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00247
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00099
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00049

Security

Grade A, and why

hono scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (examples/index.ts, examples/rpc.ts), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Ultrafast web framework for the Edges.

hono -- "deploys to" --> cloudflare

Quick Start

Hono is designed specifically for Edge Runtimes (Cloudflare Workers, Deno, Bun, Fastly). It utilizes the standard Web Fetch API rather than Node.js specific APIs.

npm create hono@latest

Production Patterns

RPC (Remote Procedure Call)

Hono provides hono/rpc which allows you to share your backend route types with your frontend, enabling end-to-end type safety without generating OpenAPI schemas.

Architecture & Scaling

Web Standard APIs

Hono strictly uses the Web Standard Request and Response objects. You cannot use Node.js res.send() or req.body. Instead, you use c.json() and await c.req.json().

Error Recovery

Use app.onError to catch exceptions globally. Since Edge functions often fail due to network timeouts when communicating with external databases, implement retry mechanisms using libraries designed for the Web Fetch API.

Security Notes

Hono includes built-in middleware for CSRF, CORS, and Basic Auth. When deploying to Cloudflare Workers, environment variables (secrets) are accessed via c.env rather than process.env.

Relationships

Alternatives: express

Deploys To: cloudflare

Why use this skill

Use this when your agent works with hono — structured patterns beat pasted docs and prevent common hallucinations.

AI pitfalls

  • Using outdated SDK or API versions from training data
  • Inventing environment variable names
  • Omitting error handling and retry logic

Production checklist

  • Secrets in environment variables, not source code
  • Error handling and logging in place
  • Rate limits and timeouts configured

What ships with it

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

hono is a skill published in the GitHub repository ashish7802/awesome-api-skills (13 stars, last pushed 9d ago), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 495 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
