mixpanel

mixpanel is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from ashish7802/awesome-api-skills. It costs 0 tokens per session (490 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An integration guide for Mixpanel, a service that records how people use an application so teams can analyze user behavior. It covers the official Node.js library and server-side event tracking.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to record backend events, update user profiles, send events in batches, handle network failures, and keep Mixpanel secrets out of browser code.
Why use it?
It helps keep important measurements, such as payments and account changes, accurate when browser tracking is blocked or unreliable. It also covers failed requests and protecting administrative credentials.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00490
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00245
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00098
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00049

Security

Grade A, and why

mixpanel scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 4 executable files (examples/basic.py, examples/people.ts, examples/track.ts, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Mixpanel API Skill

Quick Start

Mixpanel tracks user behavior across platforms. Use the official Node.js SDK to accurately record server-side events, avoiding client-side ad-blocker discrepancies.

npm install mixpanel

Common Workflows

Server-Side Tracking

Track revenue events or highly secure state changes (e.g., Account Upgrades) exclusively on the backend via mixpanel.track(). Frontend tracking is unreliable for billing metrics.

Production Patterns

User Profiles

Keep user traits updated via mixpanel.people.set(). Synchronize fields like 'Plan Type', 'Lifetime Value', and 'Last Login' to enable powerful cohort analysis in the Mixpanel dashboard.

Error Recovery

Handle network failures when sending batch events. If using the HTTP API directly rather than the SDK, implement robust exponential backoff. The Node SDK fails silently on network errors by default to prevent crashing.

Security Notes

Mixpanel relies on a Project Token. Server-side integrations should also utilize the API Secret for administrative actions (like bulk deletions). Never expose the API Secret to clients.

Performance Considerations

Use mixpanel.track_batch() if you are importing historical data or processing thousands of events in a chron job to avoid rate limits and reduce network latency.

Testing Guidance

Initialize the SDK with a separate test Project Token for your staging environment to prevent test events from corrupting your production analytics data.

Troubleshooting

If events appear in Mixpanel with the wrong chronological order, ensure you are passing the exact UNIX timestamp in the properties payload if events are heavily delayed.

Why use this skill

Use this when your agent works with mixpanel — structured patterns beat pasted docs and prevent common hallucinations.

AI pitfalls

  • Using outdated SDK or API versions from training data
  • Inventing environment variable names
  • Omitting error handling and retry logic

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

mixpanel is a skill published in the GitHub repository ashish7802/awesome-api-skills (13 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 490 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
