In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for comment mentions, account updates, reminders, and other messages that need to reach users through one or more channels.
Why use it?
It removes the need to separately connect and coordinate every notification provider. It also gives notification rules a single place to manage delivery choices.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00398
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00199
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00080
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00040

Measured 2d ago against content hash f7a30622b0d6, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-12, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

novu scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Novu Notification Platform API Skill

Overview

Novu provides an open-source, full-stack notification infrastructure. Route and coordinate multi-channel notifications (In-app inbox, Email via Resend/SendGrid, SMS via Twilio, Push via FCM, and Slack/Discord).

Installation

npm install @novu/node

Initialization & Triggering Notification Workflows

import { Novu } from '@novu/node';

const novu = new Novu(process.env.NOVU_SECRET_KEY!);

// Trigger a workflow across all configured channels
await novu.trigger('comment-mention-workflow', {
  to: {
    subscriberId: 'usr_87612',
    email: '[email protected]',
    phone: '+15550199283',
    firstName: 'Sarah',
  },
  payload: {
    authorName: 'David',
    commentSnippet: 'Can you review this pull request before deploying?',
    documentUrl: 'https://app.example.com/docs/42',
  },
});

Managing Subscriber Preferences

// Update subscriber channel preferences
await novu.subscribers.updatePreference('usr_87612', 'comment-mention-workflow', {
  channel: {
    type: 'email',
    enabled: true,
  },
});

AI Pitfalls & Anti-Hallucination Guidelines

  • Workflow Slugs: The workflow identifier must match the exact workflow ID configured in your Novu organization.
  • Client vs Server SDK: Never use @novu/node on client-side React apps; use @novu/notification-center for in-app UI widgets.

Production Verification Checklist

  • In-app notification center mounted on frontend
  • Email/SMS providers configured and connected in Novu integrations tab
  • Subscriber IDs correspond to primary user database IDs

Files

What ships with it

1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

novu is a skill published in the GitHub repository ashish7802/awesome-api-skills (13 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 398 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-10.
