dependency-audit

dependency-audit is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from ashtonian/llm-init. It costs 11 tokens per session (2,070 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A dependency-checking workflow for software packages, container images, and automated build actions used by a project. It checks versions, security vulnerabilities, upgrade gaps, and deprecations.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to inspect Go, Node.js, Python, Rust, Docker, and GitHub Actions dependencies, then plan upgrades with compatibility tests.
Why use it?
It replaces a manual inventory of dependencies and makes it easier to see which updates may fix security problems or break compatibility.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00011 $0.02070
Opus 5 $0.00005 $0.01035
Sonnet 5 $0.00002 $0.00414
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00207

Measured 5d ago against content hash 6c1def194772, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-05, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

dependency-audit scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Dependency Audit Skill

Structured workflow for scanning dependencies, checking for CVEs, assessing upgrade difficulty, generating upgrade task files with compatibility testing plans, and tracking deprecation timelines.

Workflow

Step 1: Inventory Dependencies

Scan the project for all dependency manifests:

File Ecosystem Scan Command
go.mod / go.sum Go go list -m all
package.json / package-lock.json Node.js npm ls --all
yarn.lock Node.js (Yarn) yarn list
pnpm-lock.yaml Node.js (pnpm) pnpm ls --depth Infinity
requirements.txt / pyproject.toml Python pip list
Cargo.toml / Cargo.lock Rust cargo tree
Dockerfile Container base images Parse FROM lines
docker-compose.yml Service images Parse image fields
.github/workflows/*.yml GitHub Actions Parse uses fields

For each dependency, record:

  • Name: Package/module name
  • Current version: What's installed
  • Latest version: What's available
  • Version gap: How many major/minor/patch versions behind
  • Direct vs transitive: Is it a direct dependency or pulled in transitively?
  • License: License type (MIT, Apache-2.0, GPL, etc.)

Output: Dependency inventory table sorted by version gap (largest first).

Step 2: Vulnerability Scan

Run vulnerability scanners for each ecosystem:

Go:

# Built-in vulnerability database
go install golang.org/x/vuln/cmd/govulncheck@latest
govulncheck ./...

# Module verification
go mod verify

Node.js:

# npm audit with JSON output for parsing
npm audit --json

# Or with yarn
yarn audit --json

# Or with Snyk (if available)
snyk test --json

Container Images:

# Trivy for container scanning (if available)
trivy image {image-name}

# Or grype
grype {image-name}

GitHub Actions:

# Check for pinned versions vs floating tags
# Grep for uses: without @sha

For each vulnerability found, record:

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

dependency-audit is a skill published in the GitHub repository ashtonian/llm-init (2 stars, last pushed 7mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 11 tokens to every session and 2,070 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
