HVAC error-code lookup

Turn a brand + error code into a documented explanation and remediation, citing the source manual.

When to use

The user mentions an equipment brand and a fault/error code shown on a unit or thermostat and asks what it means, why it happens, or how to fix it.

Prerequisites

The AskMarcel MCP server must be connected (https://mcp.askmarcel.app, tools prefixed accordingly). If it is not, tell the user to add it — config at https://app.askmarcel.app/developers.

Steps

1. Extract the brand and error_code from the request. Capture model if given.
2. Look up the code deterministically:
   • Call get_error_code with { brand, error_code, model? }.
3. If the result is thin or the code is model-specific, enrich:
   • Call search_technical_docs with { query: "<brand> <error_code> cause and reset", brand, error_code }.
   • If a promising excerpt returns a chunk_id, call get_procedure for the full fix steps.
4. Answer with:
   • What the code means (cause).
   • Ordered remediation steps.
   • The source (manual name / page). Offer get_pdf_page_snapshot to show the exact page.
5. Never invent a meaning. If AskMarcel has no entry for the code, say so and suggest diagnose from the symptom instead.

Example

User: "Mitsubishi Electric showing E6, what do I do?"

• get_error_code { brand: "Mitsubishi Electric", error_code: "E6" }
• Return: cause (indoor/outdoor communication fault), steps (check interconnect wiring, connectors, voltage…), and the cited manual page.
