update-go-version

update-go-version is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from authgear/authgear-server. It costs 14 tokens per session (245 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A checklist for changing the Go programming language version used throughout the repository's modules, build files, and Docker images.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when upgrading or otherwise changing Go, including updating version references, refreshing the Nix hash, tidying modules, rebuilding generated files, and verifying the project.
Why use it?
It prevents different parts of the project from using different Go versions and includes dependency, image, and build checks after the change.

About the project

Authgear is an open-source identity and authentication service that provides login, account management, multi-factor authentication, passkeys, and single sign-on for applications. SaaS and mobile-app developers can run it themselves or use Authgear Cloud to manage consumer and enterprise user access. The catalogue entries relate to operating and configuring Authgear's authentication workflows.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00014 $0.00245
Opus 5 $0.00007 $0.00122
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00049
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00024

Measured 5d ago against content hash 29203fed3d22, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

update-go-version scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Use this skill when the Go version changes.

Files to update

  • flake.nix
  • .tool-versions
  • go.mod
  • custombuild/go.mod
  • e2e/go.mod
  • k6/go.mod
  • packagetracker/go.mod.tpl
  • custombuild/cmd/authgear/Dockerfile
  • custombuild/cmd/portalx/Dockerfile
  • cmd/portal/Dockerfile
  • cmd/authgear/Dockerfile
  • once/partial.dockerfile

Workflow

  1. Update the version in every file above.
  2. Use nix store prefetch-file to refresh the hash in flake.nix.
  3. Run make go-mod-tidy.
  4. Run make once/Dockerfile.
  5. Verify the repo still builds if the version bump changed tool behavior.

Notes

  • Keep the version updates consistent across all Go modules.
  • Do not leave one module on the old version; that creates hard-to-debug drift.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
