clickmem-research

clickmem-research is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from auxten/clickmem. It costs 71 tokens per session (1,257 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A memory-store audit process that checks whether a ClickMem memory service returns useful, consistent, and sufficiently confident results. It reviews recent recall traces, which record how stored memories were selected.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to check service health and memory statistics, sample recent recalls, examine candidate scores, and propose resolutions for conflicts or quality issues.
Why use it?
It can reveal failed or low-confidence retrievals, contradictory memories, and scoring problems before they affect later agent work.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00071 $0.01257
Opus 5 $0.00036 $0.00629
Sonnet 5 $0.00014 $0.00251
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00126

Security

Grade A, and why

clickmem-research scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 128 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

ClickMem — Memory Audit

A lightweight quality pass over the ClickMem store. The server runs zero LLM, so this skill uses the agent's current session model to score recall behaviour and propose fixes. Everything reads through the public REST + MCP surface; no direct chDB access.

Run the steps in order. Stop early if a step fails critically (server unreachable, no data).

Step 1: Health check

clickmem service status
curl -s http://127.0.0.1:9527/v1/health | jq
curl -s http://127.0.0.1:9527/v1/stats/overview | jq

Confirm:

  • Server is reachable on port 9527.
  • Memory counts are non-zero; otherwise there's nothing to audit.
  • Active backend (local chDB vs clickhouse) matches what the user expects.

Step 2: Sample recent recall traces

The server logs every recall to the events table. Pull the last N traces and the per-candidate scoring:

clickmem recall-trace --sample 20 --since 7d
# or
curl -s -X POST http://127.0.0.1:9527/v1/recall/trace \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"sample": 20, "since": "7d"}' | jq

Each trace returns the query, the top hits, and the score breakdown (cosine × project multiplier × privacy filter × pinned boost). Look for:

  • Low top-1 cosine (< 0.5) — the agent asked something with no anchor in the store.
  • Project mismatches — top hits came from other-project (×0.0) and got filtered out.
  • Stale top hits — the top memory is status='contracted' or hasn't been updated in months and yet is winning.

Step 3: Surface unresolved conflicts

clickmem conflicts --json
# or
curl -s http://127.0.0.1:9527/v1/conflicts | jq

For each pair, fetch both memories:

clickmem show <id_a> --history
clickmem show <id_b> --history

Decide for each pair:

  • One supersedes the other → propose clickmem resolve <loser> --revise <winner>.
  • Both are correct under different scopes (different projects, privacy levels) → propose clickmem resolve <a> --allow <b>.
  • Neither is right anymore → propose clickmem forget on both with a reason.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

clickmem-research is a skill published in the GitHub repository auxten/clickmem (58 stars, last pushed 2mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 71 tokens to every session and 1,257 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
