home-ops: Skill for Claude Code

.agents/skills/github-ci/SKILL.md

github-ci is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Aviator-Coding/home-ops. It costs 81 tokens per session (1,225 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A repository guide for GitHub Actions, the service that runs automated checks, plus self-hosted runners and branch protection. It documents which files and checks are authoritative and which runner limits matter.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it before changing workflow files, CI scripts, runner scale sets, branch protection, or pinned values, and when investigating red or flaky checks.
Why use it?
It prevents edits that appear valid but bypass real coverage, break fork safety, or depend on unavailable Kubernetes or Docker access. It also explains why a green or flaky check may not prove a change is safe.

This is Aviator-Coding/home-ops's own configuration. It tells Claude Code and Codex how to work on home-ops itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything home-ops configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00081 $0.01225
Opus 5.5 $0.00032 $0.00490
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00245
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00122

Measured 23d ago against content hash b4e49e9248af, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

github-ci scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 23d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

GitHub CI: workflows, scripts/ci gates and ARC runners

validate.yaml is the only CI signal for talos/, bootstrap/, .renovate/ and credential-less terraform/. flate and image-pull only see kubernetes/**. A green schema check is not permission to just talos apply-node.

Tripwires

  1. talosctl validate is schema-only. It catches render breakage and unknown machine-config keys. Invalid enums, bad CIDRs and a missing install disk all pass. Bootstrap coverage is bootstrap/kustomize/ only.
  2. Keep the fork guard on every self-hosted pull_request job. if: github.event.pull_request.head.repo.full_name == github.repository. This repo is public. A fork PR skips those workflows; a maintainer re-runs them from a same-repo branch.
  3. Runners have no Kubernetes API and the home-ops set has no Docker. Both scale sets set automountServiceAccountToken: false and no serviceAccountName (chart no-permission SA). The only node credential is the home-ops Talos ServiceAccount at os:operator. docker:// actions and docker run fail on gha-runner-scale-set-aviator-coding-home-ops. arc-runners.md
  4. A red validate.yaml check that passes on rerun is pool contention. Editing the workflow matches every per-job filter, so the set launches at once. maxRunners: 15 was not the ceiling (PR #1481). Rerun. Do not raise maxRunners, drop the workflow from its own filters, or serialize jobs (concurrency wait counts toward timeout-minutes).
  5. jdx/mise-action install_args names the tool only. A @version pin installs a different copy than the .mise.toml shim. Gate: scripts/ci/mise-install-args-test.py.
  6. Grep scripts/ci/ before retiring an app or changing a pinned value. task flux:test:all does not run these tests. Assert a relationship or a pin's shape. Leave the ARG TALOS_VERSION canary in .github/docker/talosctl-busybox/Dockerfile alone (skill talos-nodes). scripts-ci.md
  7. A stale runner client cert fails image-pull on every kubernetes/** PR. remote error: tls: expired certificate is the node's apid rejecting the runner's mTLS cert. Delete Secret actions-runner in actions-runner-system so the talos.dev controller reissues it. The pull step's retries cannot fix an already-expired cert.
  8. Only Labeler - Labeler is a required check. Ruleset main-branch-protection (id 21250320) is applied with gh api, not Git. platformAutomerge: false because GitHub merges the moment that one check is green. branch-protection.md
  9. Workflow comments are not workflow logic. Edits under .github/workflows/ may change comments and docs. Leave runs:, if:, with: and @sha pins unchanged unless the task is a workflow change.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

github-ci is a skill published in the GitHub repository Aviator-Coding/home-ops (3 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 81 tokens to every session and 1,225 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-29.
