home-ops: Skill for Claude Code

.agents/skills/pvc-integrity-checks/SKILL.md

pvc-integrity-checks is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Aviator-Coding/home-ops. It costs 45 tokens per session (1,002 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of guidance for two scheduled Kubernetes checks that test whether application volumes can be written and whether backup identities can read them. A PVC, or persistent volume claim, is a request for storage attached to a workload.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when adding covered namespaces, changing pod permissions, or investigating writable-volume and backup-reader alerts.
Why use it?
It catches storage permission failures that ordinary readiness checks and health pages may miss. It also prevents granting volume-access permissions across the whole cluster by mistake.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00045 $0.01002
Opus 5.5 $0.00018 $0.00401
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00009 $0.00200
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00100

Security

Grade A, and why

pvc-integrity-checks scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 25d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

PVC integrity checks

Two CronJobs in system. An app can be unable to write its own volume, or a backup mover can be unable to read it, while the pod is Ready, probes pass and Gatus is green. Nothing else in CI sees that. These jobs are the detector.

They are not interchangeable. Writable answers "can this container write this mount?" Mover-readable answers "can this backup identity read this claim?"

Tripwires

  1. pods/exec is never cluster-wide. Discovery is a ClusterRoleBinding. Exec is a ClusterRole with no ClusterRoleBinding, plus one namespaced RoleBinding per covered namespace. The API server denies the rest. Do not "simplify" this into one cluster-wide grant. writable.md
  2. The overlay must not set targetNamespace. Flux overwrites metadata.namespace on every namespaced object, so the per-namespace RoleBindings collapse onto system and collide.
  3. A new namespace that should be checked needs a RoleBinding in lockstep with the CronJob's namespace list. Writable excludes rook-ceph, database and security permanently. Mover-readable binds only ai, downloads, home-automation, media, selfhosted. database/pgadmin is a permanent gap on the mover check.
  4. UNMEASURED is never a pass. Unmounted claims, subPath-only mounts (ntfy), RBAC exclusions, and any walk that hit an error are reported, not counted as readable. mover-readable.md
  5. Alert on kopiur. Report-only for VolSync. VolSync stages its clone writable, so fsGroup repairs permissions before restic reads. kopiur stages read-only and fails closed. The same mismatch is invisible to one engine and fatal to the other.
  6. The four walk traps in walk.sh each return a silent false-clean zero if reintroduced: busybox find has no -uid/-gid; /tmp is read-only so there is no temp file; stderr is counted, never discarded; stat -c %F says regular empty file, so match the type by prefix. lost+found (0700 root:root) is pruned from descent and statted aside, or every ext4 claim is INCONCLUSIVE.
  7. Identities come from the live ReplicationSource / SnapshotPolicy, never from component defaults. Real movers span uid 0 through 10000.
  8. Expected read-only is volumeMounts[].readOnly: true. The pod annotation pvc-writable-check.home-operations.com/skip is an unused escape hatch. Do not use it to silence a real failure.
  9. Do not shell-interpolate a mount path. The walker receives the path as an argv element. A pod must not be able to inject through its own mountPath.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

pvc-integrity-checks is a skill published in the GitHub repository Aviator-Coding/home-ops (3 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 45 tokens to every session and 1,002 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-29.
