data-designer-new-plan

data-designer-new-plan is a skill for Claude Code from avohq/avo-mcp. It costs 154 tokens per session (6,150 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for starting an Avo tracking plan from an empty workspace. Avo is a product-analytics tool for defining events, properties, categories, and metrics to measure how people use software.

In plain words
What is it for?
Setting goals and funnels, choosing naming conventions, defining initial tracking items, and creating the first plan branch in Avo.
Why use it?
It provides a structured way to decide what user activity to record and how to name and organize that data before implementation begins.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00154 $0.06150
Opus 5 $0.00077 $0.03075
Sonnet 5 $0.00031 $0.01230
Haiku 4.5 $0.00015 $0.00615

Security

Grade A, and why

data-designer-new-plan scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Avo MCP — Kick Off a New Tracking Plan

This skill teaches the agent how to bootstrap a brand-new Avo tracking plan from scratch through the Avo MCP server: confirm the workspace is empty, run a purpose meeting, agree a naming convention, and seed the first categories, events, properties, and metrics — then create a branch.

For working with an existing, substantial tracking plan — exploring and searching, looking items up, designing tracking against what's already there, reviewing and implementing branches, cross-MCP analysis — use the data-designer skill instead. Quick empty check: run search with itemType: "event" and no query; if it returns very few results, you're greenfield and this skill applies. If the plan is substantial, switch to data-designer.

The Avo MCP server runs at https://mcp.avo.app/mcp and exposes these tools:

Read tools: health_check, list_workspaces, get, search, list_branches, get_branch_details, get_branch_implementation_guide, get_branch_code_snippets.

get looks up a single item by id or exact name. It supports type values event, property, metric, category, propertyBundle, source, destination, groupType, eventVariant, and workspaceConfig. Use type: "workspaceConfig" to retrieve the workspace's tracking plan audit rules — i.e. the workspace-wide event naming, property naming, casing, and validation rules — before proposing any new events or properties.

Write tools (require the write scope): workflow, save_items.

The MCP never merges. Merging a branch to main always remains a human step in the Avo web app.

Flow 1: Start session (bootstrap)

Runs once per session, on the first prompt of any kind. Required before any other workspace-scoped tool.

Trigger: any prompt.

Steps:

  1. Call list_workspaces.
  2. If the user named a workspace (by name or id) in their prompt: set that as the active workspace, respond "Workspace set to [Workspace Name]", and continue answering the original question.
  3. Else if the user has access to exactly one workspace: set it active silently and continue.
  4. Else: return a numbered list of workspaces the user has access to and ask which one they would like to use. Wait for the user to select, then set it active and continue.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
