Azure Developer CLI (azd) is a command-line tool for building, deploying, and operating applications on Azure. Developers use it to move through application workflows such as coding, building, deployment, and monitoring with Azure templates and resources. Its catalogue entries help AI agents work with azd and Azure application projects.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.00185 | $0.00827 |
| Opus 5.5 | $0.00074 | $0.00331 |
| Sonnet 5.5 | $0.00037 | $0.00165 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $0.00018 | $0.00083 |
Grade A, and why
azd-grpc-contracts scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 29d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 86 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
azd gRPC contract lifecycle
Use this workflow as the safest and easiest path for changing the extension protobuf API. It owns the relationship between:
- Stable source:
cli/azd/grpc/proto/azd/extensions/v1 - Preview source:
cli/azd/grpc/proto/azd/extensions/v1beta - Generated contracts:
cli/azd/pkg/azdext/contracts/{v1,v1beta} - Stable SDK facade:
cli/azd/pkg/azdext - Generated beta adapters:
cli/azd/internal/grpcserver/versioned_services_generated.go
Before changing these files, read:
cli/azd/AGENTS.mdcli/azd/docs/extensions/contract-versioning.mdcli/azd/grpc/README.md
Never edit generated protobuf, facade, or adapter files directly.
Choose the workflow
| Request | Workflow |
|---|---|
| Explain the current channels or their differences | Inspect state and delta |
| Add a preview field, enum value, method, message, or service | Add to v1beta |
| Move a validated preview capability into stable | Graduate to v1 |
| Review a protobuf change | Validate the change |

Required invariants
v1is compatibility protected and changes only additively.- Every stable symbol and method shape must have a compatible counterpart in
v1beta; equivalently,v1must remain a subset ofv1beta. - A
v1betaaddition must not accidentally alter or remove an existing stable field, enum value, oneof, message, service, method, or streaming shape. - Beta-only behavior on a shared service needs a focused generated override.
Unary adaptation discards beta request fields unknown to
v1. Bidirectional stream adaptation preserves unknown wire fields for compatibility, but does not expose them as typed stable fields. - A beta-only service uses its native
v1betaimplementation rather than a stable adapter. - Graduation adds a compatible shape to
v1; it does not remove the beta route. - Changing an existing public Go accessor from a
v1betareturn type tov1is source-breaking. Stop and get an explicit API migration decision before making that change.
What ships with it
3 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

azd-grpc-contracts is a skill published in the GitHub repository Azure/azure-dev (570 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 185 tokens to every session and 827 once invoked, about $0.0007 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-25.
