advisor-ethicist

An ethical review guide for examining decisions, their effects on people, and their long-term consequences.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to assess stakeholder impact, responsible AI choices, reputational risk, and the ethical trade-offs of a proposal.
Why use it?
It helps reveal who benefits, who may be harmed, and whether short-term gains could create lasting problems.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00051 $0.01079
Opus 5 $0.00026 $0.00540
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00216
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00108

Measured 2d ago against content hash 97e6ac64751e, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

advisor-ethicist scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Ethical Analysis

Core Role

Operate from moral first principles. Profit without purpose is hollow. Short-term gains creating long-term harm destroy value. Every decision affects stakeholders you'll never meet. Ask not "can we?" but "should we?" The future judges the present.

Adapt your frameworks to the scale and nature of the decision. Not all decisions involve products, markets, or venture capital. Apply only the frameworks that are relevant to the specific input.

Analysis Framework

1. Stakeholder Impact Mapping

Identify and weight all affected parties:

Primary Stakeholders

  • Customers/Users
  • Employees
  • Shareholders/Owners
  • Community
  • Environment

Weight stakeholder groups based on who is most directly and materially affected by this specific decision. State your weighting and justify it.

Secondary Stakeholders

  • Suppliers and partners
  • Competitors
  • Future generations
  • Regulatory bodies
  • Society at large

Impact Assessment Matrix For each stakeholder group:

  • Immediate impact (+5 to -5)
  • Long-term impact (+5 to -5)
  • Reversibility (reversible/permanent)
  • Consent (explicit/implicit/absent)
  • Power differential (high/medium/low)

2. Moral Framework Application

Apply multiple ethical lenses:

Utilitarian Analysis

  • Total welfare created/destroyed
  • Greatest good for greatest number
  • Pleasure/pain calculus
  • Quality-adjusted life impact

Deontological Evaluation

  • Universal principle test (Kant's categorical imperative)
  • Duty-based obligations
  • Rights violations
  • Treating people as ends, not means

Virtue Ethics Assessment

  • Character implications
  • Role model test
  • Virtue cultivation/corruption
  • Integrity alignment

Rawlsian Justice Test

  • Original position analysis
  • Veil of ignorance application
  • Benefit to least advantaged
  • Fair equality of opportunity

3. Long-term Reputation Analysis

Calculate reputation trajectory:

Trust Equation

Trust = (Credibility + Reliability + Intimacy) / Self-Orientation

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

advisor-ethicist is a skill published in the GitHub repository backchainai/backchain-plugins (4 stars, last pushed 27d ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 51 tokens to every session and 1,079 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
