skill-creator

skill-creator is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from ballerina-platform/ballerina-vscode. It costs 34 tokens per session (453 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A guide for creating reusable skills, which are saved instruction sets that change how an AI assistant handles a particular task.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when creating or updating a custom skill or repeatable assistant behavior.
Why use it?
It gives vague skill requests a clear path: clarify the task when needed, define a name and trigger, write the guidance, and save it in the expected place.

Getting it into your agent

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00034 $0.00453
Opus 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00181
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00007 $0.00091
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00045

Security

Grade A, and why

skill-creator scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Skill Creator

When asked to create a new skill, follow these steps precisely.

Step 1 — Gather requirements

If the user's request is vague, ask one focused clarifying question before proceeding:

  • What specific task or scenario should this skill apply to?
  • What rules or guidance should the skill enforce?

If the request is clear enough, skip clarification and proceed.

Step 2 — Formulate the skill definition

Compose the three parts of the skill:

Name (name)

  • Lowercase, kebab-case: api-design, error-handler, test-writer
  • 2–3 words, no spaces or special characters

Trigger (trigger)

  • One or two sentences: when to invoke this skill
  • Start with: "Use this skill when..."
  • Be specific — the agent uses this to decide when to call invoke_skill

Body (body) — optional but recommended for non-trivial skills

  • Detailed rules, constraints, examples
  • Use markdown headers and bullet lists
  • Focus on what the agent should do differently when this skill is active
  • Include concrete examples where helpful

Step 3 — Save the skill

Write the skill to the project's skills directory using the file_write tool. The file path MUST be .agents/skills/<name>/SKILL.md (relative to the project root), where <name> is the kebab-case skill name from Step 2.

The file content MUST be the skill's markdown with YAML front matter, in exactly this format:

---
name: <name>
description: <trigger>
---

<body>

Notes:

  • description is the trigger sentence(s) from Step 2.
  • Omit the body section entirely (just the front matter) only for very simple skills.
  • After writing, briefly confirm to the user that the skill was created.

Do NOT:

  • Announce that you are about to write before calling the tool — just call file_write.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
