What is band-terminal?

A command-line tool for managing terminal sessions inside a Band workspace. A session is a running shell process with its own terminal output history.

Use it to create, list, send input to, read output from, attach to, or stop Band terminal sessions.

It lets you control remote or separate terminal sessions without manually switching between them.

Band Terminal Sessions

Terminal sessions are PTY processes attached to a Band workspace. Each terminal has its own scrollback buffer and shell process.

This skill is focused on terminal management only. For broader operations see the sibling skills:

Prerequisites

The Band server must be running (started by the Band dashboard app). Connects to http://localhost:3456 by default. See the band skill for general setup and the workspace lifecycle.

JSON Output

All commands support --output json (or BAND_OUTPUT=json env var) for structured output.

List terminal sessions for a workspace

band terminals list [workspace_id]

Text output: TERMINAL ID\tTITLE\tPID\tSCROLLBACK (tab-separated table). JSON output: {"terminals": [{"terminalId": "...", "workspaceId": "...", "pid": N, "scrollbackLength": N, "title": "..."}]}

Create a new terminal session in a workspace

band terminals create [workspace_id] [--command <string>] [--cwd <string>]

Creates a new terminal session with its own PTY process. Returns the terminal ID. JSON output: {"terminalId": "...", "workspaceId": "...", "pid": N}

Send input to a terminal session

band terminals send [terminal_id] --data <string>

Writes text to the terminal's PTY stdin. Use \n to send a newline (execute command). Example: band terminals send --data "ls -la\n"

Get terminal output (scrollback buffer)

band terminals output [terminal_id] [--lines <integer>] [--follow]

Without --follow: fetches the current scrollback buffer (up to 100KB). With --follow: streams live terminal output via SSE. Press Ctrl+C to stop.

Kill a terminal session

band terminals kill [terminal_id]
