velocity.report: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/devlog-update/SKILL.md

devlog-update is a skill for Claude Code from banshee-data/velocity.report. It costs 21 tokens per session (2,972 once invoked), scanned C, original, Apache-2.0.

A development-log updater that reads Git history and adds new entries to a project log. Git is a system for recording code changes, branches, and their history.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to summarise changes across branches, record unmerged work, link relevant files or plans, and place the newest entry first.
Why use it?
It avoids manually reconstructing what changed since the last log entry and keeps entries in the project's established format.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00021 $0.02972
Opus 5.5 $0.00008 $0.01189
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00004 $0.00594
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00297

Security

Grade C, and why

devlog-update scanned grade C with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Directives inside HTML comments, invisible characters or bidirectional overrides are read by the model and not by the person reviewing the file.

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 219 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Skill: devlog-update

Bring docs/DEVLOG.md up to date by reading git history across all branches and synthesising new entries in the established format.

Usage

/devlog-update

Format reference

The devlog uses one H2 header per UTC date:

## April 7, 2026 - Short Theme Title

- Concise bullet describing what changed and why (#512).
- Another bullet. References files in `backticks`, links to [design docs](plans/foo.md) (#513, #514). <!-- link-ignore -->
- {branch-name} Unlanded work on a feature branch.

The register rules (one line per bullet, one heading per day, PR numbers) are canonical in .github/STYLE.md under "Logs and registers"; this skill applies them.

Conventions

  • Date format: Month DD, YYYY (e.g. April 7, 2026).
  • Separator: - (hyphen) between date and theme. Never use em-dashes in headers.
  • Branch metadata: unlanded bullets begin with {branch-name} (the branch slug in curly braces, immediately after - ). No italic _Branch:_ headers. This is the only format for denoting branch work.
  • Bullet style: each bullet is exactly one physical line starting - . Never hard-wrap a bullet, however long: no indented continuation lines. Concise, action-focused, past tense.
  • Content per bullet: what changed, which files/packages/layers, why, and references to design docs or PRs where relevant.
  • Ordering: newest entry first (prepend to the file, after its introduction and formatting note).
  • One heading per date: exactly one ## heading per UTC calendar day that has work. No date ranges (February 9-10) and no second heading for a day that already has one: append to that entry and broaden its theme title instead. Merge related commits into themed bullets rather than listing every commit individually.
  • PR references: every main-landed bullet ends with the number(s) of the PR(s) that delivered it, before the final full stop: (#622) or (#605, #606). No "Merged as" or "merged to main" phrasing. Add file count only when notable. Work pushed straight to main without a PR has no number.
  • Links: link to plan docs only when the entry is primarily about creating or updating that plan. Do not link every file mentioned.
  • Version bumps: include only for actual releases. Omit pre-release bump bullets.
  • Tone: factual, developer-journal style. No marketing language. Record decisions and rationale when non-obvious.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
