velocity.report: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/update-pr-description/SKILL.md

update-pr-description is a skill for Claude Code from banshee-data/velocity.report. It costs 31 tokens per session (788 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A workflow that creates a pull request title and description from the current branch's commits and code changes. A pull request is a proposed change for review before it is merged into a shared codebase.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to find an open GitHub pull request, group its changes into sections, and update its title and description.
Why use it?
It avoids writing a summary from memory and keeps the pull request description tied to the actual diff and commit history.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00031 $0.00788
Opus 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00315
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00158
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00079

Measured 1mo ago against content hash 8d75acb6998f, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

update-pr-description scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 131 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Skill: update-pr-description

Generate a structured PR description from the actual branch diff and update the PR on GitHub.

Usage

/update-pr-description
/update-pr-description 463
/update-pr-description feature/lidar-l7-scene

If no argument is given, use the current branch and find the open PR for it.

Procedure

1. Identify the PR

If a PR number is given, use it directly. Otherwise:

git branch --show-current

Then find the open PR for that branch:

gh pr view --json number,title,body,state

If no open PR exists, stop and tell the operator.

2. Gather the diff

git log main..HEAD --oneline
git diff main --stat

Read the commit messages. They carry the intent. The diff stat shows the scope.

For large diffs, scan the actual changes in the most-modified files:

git diff main -- <file> | head -200

3. Categorise changes

Group changes into logical sections. Common categories:

  • Feature or behaviour changes
  • Refactoring or code quality
  • Documentation rewrites or compliance passes
  • Bug fixes
  • Build, CI, or tooling changes
  • Renames or file moves

Each category becomes a section heading in the PR description. Drop empty categories. If the PR only touches one category, skip the headings and write a flat description.

4. Draft the title

The PR title follows commit format: [prefix] Description.

Rules:

  • Use the prefix(es) matching the dominant change type ([docs], [go], [js], etc.)
  • If the PR spans multiple prefixes, use the primary one or combine: [go][js]
  • The description should summarise the whole PR in one line, not just the first commit
  • Keep it under 72 characters if possible

5. Draft the body

Structure:

One-sentence summary of what this PR does and why.

## Section heading

Paragraph or bullet list describing changes in this category. Be specific:
name the files, the functions, the migration. Do not pad.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
