Find Outdated Dependencies
Run this skill inline in the dependency-bump orchestrator. The caller supplies one package manager and one already-resolved repository scope in prose. This skill produces records in the current conversation only. Do not create, modify, or return an artifact path.
Input Contract
The caller must identify:
- The package manager:
npm,pnpm,yarn,bun,deno,uv, orcargo. - The repository root and workspace scope, defaulting to the root project and all workspace members.
If the manager or scope is absent or conflicts with the repository files, stop and report the conflict to the caller. Do not select another manager.
Procedure
- Read only the reference for the supplied manager.
- Run its prerequisite check when it defines one. Report a failed prerequisite and stop; do not install tools or packages.
- Discover every in-scope manifest, including all workspace members unless the caller explicitly narrowed the scope. Use the reference's manifest and workspace rules.
- Run the reference's outdated-dependency command. Collect direct dependencies only. A nonzero status that the reference defines as an outdated-result status is not a failure.
- Parse the command output according to the reference. Preserve every occurrence: package name, manifest path, declared dependency section, current resolved version, and target version.
- For each distinct package, fetch authoritative registry metadata using the reference. Resolve the canonical project URL and repository URL from that metadata. Normalize Git URLs into browsable HTTPS URLs when possible. Keep an empty repository URL when no authoritative source provides one.
- Classify each occurrence by comparing its current and target versions:
majorwhen major differs,minorwhen the major matches and minor differs, otherwisepatch. For non-semver versions, returnunknownand include the unparsed versions. - Return normalized occurrence records. Leave filtering and grouping to the caller.
