claude-brainstorm

claude-brainstorm is a skill for Codex from Beaulewis1977/claude-plugin-for-codex. It costs 36 tokens per session (449 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A read-only brainstorming aid that asks Claude for different options before a coding decision is made.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when weighing architecture, design, debugging, migration, security, or release choices.
Why use it?
It helps expose hidden assumptions and compare trade-offs before choosing a direction for difficult or high-impact work.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00036 $0.00449
Opus 5 $0.00018 $0.00225
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00090
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00045

Security

Grade A, and why

claude-brainstorm scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Claude Brainstorm

Use Claude to widen the option space, expose assumptions, and compare trade-offs before Codex synthesizes a direction.

When to brainstorm

Codex may use this skill proactively before a consequential architecture, design, debugging, migration, security, or release choice that benefits from divergent ideas. Disclose the consultation. Do not use it for trivial work or recursive delegation. Default to one consultation per decision unless the user asks again or materially new evidence appears.

Workflow

  1. Supply the goal, relevant context, constraints, assumptions, explored ideas, and the dimensions on which alternatives should differ. Ask for distinct options, trade-offs, risks, and promising directions rather than one answer.
  2. Resolve <plugin-root>/scripts/claude-companion.mjs to an absolute path.
  3. Make exactly one runtime invocation. Runtime action: brainstorm.
  4. Pass --cwd with the current workspace and --json as separate arguments. Classify routine or bounded work as normal, substantial reasoning as hard, and the most complex or high-stakes work as very-hard. Pass that classification with --tier. Explicit model and effort selections always win. Honor explicit background and session choices.
  5. Write the free-form task and context to stdin. Never place task text in an option, argument, or shell command. Use an argument array; never concatenate or interpolate values into a shell command. Use the execution tool's separate stdin channel; if it exposes an interactive process session, send the text there and explicitly close stdin before waiting.
  6. Keep this read-only. The runtime forces plan permission and safe-mode. Never edit, write, fix, or apply changes, and do not request bypass permissions.
  7. Attribute the ideas to Claude and keep them separate from evaluation. Codex owns the final synthesis, recommendation, and user-facing answer.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

claude-brainstorm is a skill published in the GitHub repository Beaulewis1977/claude-plugin-for-codex (3 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 36 tokens to every session and 449 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
