claude-consult

claude-consult is a skill for Codex from Beaulewis1977/claude-plugin-for-codex. It costs 47 tokens per session (488 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A read-only way to ask Claude for a second opinion on an important software decision, such as architecture, debugging, security, migration, or release planning.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to get an attributed review of a difficult decision or continue an earlier compatible Claude discussion.
Why use it?
It gives you another technical view while leaving the final decision and answer with the main coding agent.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00047 $0.00488
Opus 5 $0.00023 $0.00244
Sonnet 5 $0.00009 $0.00098
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00049

Measured 10d ago against content hash 8abf487b7715, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-10, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

claude-consult scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Claude Consult

Use Claude as an attributed adviser while Codex retains responsibility for the decision and final answer.

When to consult

Codex may use this skill proactively before a consequential architecture, design, debugging, migration, security, or release decision. Disclose the consultation. Do not consult for trivial work, and never ask Claude to recursively delegate to Codex or another Claude consultation. Default to one consultation per decision unless the user asks again or materially new evidence appears.

When the user asks to continue or follow up on the last compatible Claude consultation, pass --resume. Use --fresh when the user explicitly wants an independent session.

Workflow

  1. State the precise question, relevant context, constraints, current leaning, and desired response. Classify routine or bounded work as normal, substantial reasoning as hard, and the most complex or high-stakes work as very-hard. Pass that classification with --tier. Explicit model and effort selections always win.
  2. Resolve <plugin-root>/scripts/claude-companion.mjs to an absolute path.
  3. Make exactly one runtime invocation. Runtime action: consult.
  4. Pass --cwd with the current workspace and --json as separate arguments. Honor explicit background, wait, resume, fresh, model, effort, tier, and timeout requests.
  5. Write the free-form question and context to stdin. Never place task text in an option, argument, or shell command. Use an argument array; never concatenate or interpolate values into a shell command. Use the execution tool's separate stdin channel; if it exposes an interactive process session, send the text there and explicitly close stdin before waiting.
  6. Keep this read-only. The runtime forces plan permission and safe-mode. Never edit, write, fix, or apply changes, and do not request bypass permissions.
  7. Attribute the response to Claude, assess it critically, and present it separately. Codex owns the final synthesis and decision.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
