defuddle

defuddle is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from benoror/obsidianos_work. It costs 54 tokens per session (261 once invoked), scanned A, a copy of defuddle, MIT.

A command-line tool for turning web pages into clean Markdown, a plain-text format for structured writing. It removes menus, advertisements, and other page clutter before the content is read.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to extract a page from a URL, save the result to a file, or retrieve individual details such as its title, description, or website domain.
Why use it?
It reduces irrelevant text when an agent needs to understand an article, documentation page, blog post, or other standard web page. This makes the useful content easier to process.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00054 $0.00261
Opus 5 $0.00027 $0.00130
Sonnet 5 $0.00011 $0.00052
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00026

Measured 4d ago against content hash 15155e03da11, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

defuddle scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Origin

This is a copy

81% identical to defuddle — 3 lines differ, which has more behind it and is treated as the original. This page carries a canonical link to it rather than competing with it.

What it actually says

Defuddle

Use Defuddle CLI to extract clean readable content from web pages. Prefer over WebFetch for standard web pages — it removes navigation, ads, and clutter, reducing token usage.

If not installed: npm install -g defuddle

Usage

Always use --md for markdown output:

defuddle parse <url> --md

Save to file:

defuddle parse <url> --md -o content.md

Extract specific metadata:

defuddle parse <url> -p title
defuddle parse <url> -p description
defuddle parse <url> -p domain

Output formats

Flag Format
--md Markdown (default choice)
--json JSON with both HTML and markdown
(none) HTML
-p <name> Specific metadata property
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
