github-repo-hygiene

github-repo-hygiene is a skill for Claude Code from bestdeejay-design/agent-skills. It costs 125 tokens per session (539 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A deprecated GitHub repository maintenance guide that now routes requests to four smaller, focused tools. GitHub is a service for hosting and collaborating on code.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use the replacement tools for README files and assets, community documents, repository metadata and health, or social-preview images.
Why use it?
Its former responsibilities were split up, so using it directly may lead to outdated workflows.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00125 $0.00539
Opus 5 $0.00063 $0.00269
Sonnet 5 $0.00025 $0.00108
Haiku 4.5 $0.00013 $0.00054

Security

Grade A, and why

github-repo-hygiene scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

GitHub Repo Hygiene — DEPRECATED (router)

This skill is deprecated. It was split into four focused skills. Do not run workflows from this file — load the matching sub-skill directly.

Routing table

Need Load this skill instead
README (EN + localized mirror) + animated SVG header/footer repo-readme-assets
LICENSE, CODE_OF_CONDUCT, CONTRIBUTING, SECURITY, SUPPORT, issue/PR templates, FUNDING repo-community-files
description, topics, GitHub Pages link, community-health audit, 16-point checklist repo-metadata-health
social preview (og:image) PNG 1280×640 repo-social-preview

The old scripts/references were moved into the four new skills:

  • generate_assets.py, validate_svg.py, extract_context.py + svg references → repo-readme-assets
  • validate_repo.py + community-checklist.md + repo-hygiene.yml example → repo-metadata-health
  • generate_social_preview.py + social-preview.mdrepo-social-preview

Removal plan

Keep this router for one release cycle for backward compatibility (global AGENTS.md rules may still reference github-repo-hygiene), then delete the folder.

Files

What ships with it

4 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
