veles

veles is a skill for Claude Code from bestdeejay-design/agent-skills. It costs 84 tokens per session (611 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A documentation analysis tool that finds unreferenced files, counts documentation metrics, identifies unlinked folders, and checks whether documents follow a defined hierarchy.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to audit Markdown documentation for orphan files, word and link counts, dead zones, stale content, and invalid level-to-level references.
Why use it?
It helps reveal documentation that is disconnected, outdated, structurally misplaced, or missing links from the main documentation set.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00084 $0.00611
Opus 5 $0.00042 $0.00305
Sonnet 5 $0.00017 $0.00122
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00061

Measured 7d ago against content hash 8fe2319b4fae, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-11, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

veles scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Veles — Statistician

Finds orphan documents, computes documentation metrics, detects dead zones, validates link hierarchy.

What it does

  • Orphans — documents with zero inbound references from other docs
  • Statistics — file count, word count, level distribution, link count
  • Dead zones — folders with no references from main documentation tree
  • Hierarchy validation — enforces L1→L2→L3→L4 reference direction
L1 (Contracts) → L2 (Product Canon) → L3 (Engineering Canon) → L4 (Derived)

Upper levels reference lower levels. Veles flags violations (e.g., L3 referencing L1 directly).

Usage

# Via Chronos orchestrator
chronos --path . --preset full

# Direct invocation
python -m chronos.agents.veles --path .

Output Format

[nit] orphan: CONTRIBUTING.md — no inbound references from other documents
[info] stats: 12 documents, 4500 words, 3 levels, 28 links
[warning] hierarchy_violation: docs/ADR/001.md (L3) references contracts/openapi.yaml (L1) directly
[info] dead_zone: docs/legacy/ — no references from L1-L4

Metrics Computed

Metric Description
total_files Markdown files scanned
total_words Aggregate word count
level_distribution Count per L1-L6
link_count Total internal links
orphan_count Documents with 0 inbound links
dead_zone_count Unreferenced folders

Triggers

  • find orphans / orphan docs / unreferenced documents
  • documentation stats / doc metrics / documentation statistics
  • dead zones / unlinked folders
  • link hierarchy / reference hierarchy
  • veles

Integration

Loaded by Chronos as part of full preset only.

Files

What ships with it

1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

veles is a skill published in the GitHub repository bestdeejay-design/agent-skills (5 stars, last pushed 3d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 84 tokens to every session and 611 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
