seo-technical

seo-technical is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from BestLemoon/codex-seo. It costs 73 tokens per session (1,984 once invoked), scanned A, a copy of seo-technical, MIT.

A checklist for reviewing the technical parts of a website that affect search engines and visitors. It covers crawling, indexing, security, URLs, mobile use, loading speed, structured data, JavaScript rendering, and AI crawlers.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to audit robots.txt and XML sitemaps, find noindex errors, review crawl depth, investigate JavaScript-dependent content, check security headers and Core Web Vitals, and manage crawler access.
Why use it?
It helps find site problems that can prevent pages from being discovered, understood, or used comfortably. It also distinguishes deliberate settings from accidental blocks.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00073 $0.01984
Opus 5 $0.00036 $0.00992
Sonnet 5 $0.00015 $0.00397
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00198

Security

Grade A, and why

seo-technical scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Technical SEO Audit

Categories

1. Crawlability

  • robots.txt: exists, valid, not blocking important resources
  • XML sitemap: exists, referenced in robots.txt, valid format
  • Noindex tags: intentional vs accidental
  • Crawl depth: important pages within 3 clicks of homepage
  • JavaScript rendering: check if critical content requires JS execution
  • Crawl budget: for large sites (>10k pages), efficiency matters
AI Crawler Management

As of 2025-2026, AI companies actively crawl the web to train models and power AI search. Managing these crawlers via robots.txt is a critical technical SEO consideration.

Known AI crawlers:

Crawler Company robots.txt token Purpose
GPTBot OpenAI GPTBot Model training
ChatGPT-User OpenAI ChatGPT-User Real-time browsing
ClaudeBot Anthropic ClaudeBot Model training
PerplexityBot Perplexity PerplexityBot Search index + training
Bytespider ByteDance Bytespider Model training
Google-Extended Google Google-Extended Gemini training (NOT search)
CCBot Common Crawl CCBot Open dataset

Key distinctions:

  • Blocking Google-Extended prevents Gemini training use but does NOT affect Google Search indexing or AI Overviews (those use Googlebot)
  • Blocking GPTBot prevents OpenAI training but does NOT prevent ChatGPT from citing your content via browsing (ChatGPT-User)
  • ~3-5% of websites now use AI-specific robots.txt rules

Example, selective AI crawler blocking:

# Allow search indexing, block AI training crawlers
User-agent: GPTBot
Disallow: /

User-agent: Google-Extended
Disallow: /

User-agent: Bytespider
Disallow: /

# Allow all other crawlers (including Googlebot for search)
User-agent: *
Allow: /

Recommendation: Consider your AI visibility strategy before blocking. Being cited by AI systems drives brand awareness and referral traffic. Cross-reference the seo-geo skill for full AI visibility optimization.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
