realm-forge

realm-forge is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from blackmo18/realm. It costs 77 tokens per session (582 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A setup workflow for Realm, a project knowledge system that uses an Obsidian note vault and local project state. It creates the initial vault structure, project guidance link, state file, and related ignore rules without replacing existing documentation.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for first-time Realm setup, restoring missing local state, or linking an existing project's documentation to Realm.
Why use it?
It gives a project a consistent knowledge base before other Realm tools try to read or investigate it. It also supports connecting an existing Obsidian vault.

Skill for Claude CodeCodex

Written for Claude Code and Codex: shipped in a Claude Code plugin, but also agents/openai.yaml present. Also seen: mentions Claude Code; mentions Codex; $skill-name invocation.

Not installable: its command points at a path on the author’s own machine, so it runs nowhere else. The line is /Users/username/Documents/obsidian/universe.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00077 $0.00582
Opus 5.5 $0.00031 $0.00233
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00015 $0.00116
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00058

Security

Grade A, and why

realm-forge scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/forge_init.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

realm-forge

Bootstrap Obsidian knowledge base for current project. First skill in realm pipeline.

Host invocation: Claude Code, Cursor, and Gemini use /realm-forge; Codex uses $realm-forge.

When to Use

Trigger Example
First-time setup "init realm", /realm-forge
Vault path not configured "set up project knowledge base"
.realm/realm-state.json missing Starting pipeline from scratch
Adding realm to project with existing Obsidian docs Idempotent — detects existing docs

When NOT to Use

  • Project initialized, want to query vault → /realm-recall
  • Project initialized, want to investigate code → /realm-fathom
  • Project initialized, state current → /realm-status to check

Procedure

This skill handles interactive vault path resolution, then runs the forge procedure.

Step 1 — Resolve vault path and project slug (interactive)

  1. Check args. If vault path provided, use it.
  2. No arg: check if <projectRoot>/.realm/realm-state.json exists → reuse its vaultPath.
  3. Still not found: ask user for Obsidian vault root. Example: /Users/username/Documents/obsidian/universe. Wait for reply before proceeding.
  4. Derive projectSlug: read package.json .name; if absent, use repo root dir name. Normalize to kebab-case.
  5. Detect active host as claude, cursor, codex, or gemini.
  6. Print Vault: <path> Slug: <slug> Host: <host> and proceed.

Step 2 — Run forge procedure

If the host exposes realm-agent-forge and delegation is permitted by the current user/session policy, delegate with this prompt. Otherwise execute the same procedure inline. Never require delegation for correctness.

projectRoot: <absolute path to project root>
vaultPath: <resolved vault path from Step 1>
projectSlug: <derived slug from Step 1>
host: <claude|cursor|codex|gemini>
realmForgeSkillDir: <directory containing this SKILL.md>

Bootstrap the vault and write realm-state.json.
Follow the full procedure in your instructions.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
