BloomDesktop: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/edit-bloom-book/SKILL.md

edit-bloom-book is a skill for Claude Code from BloomBooks/BloomDesktop. It costs 69 tokens per session (4,307 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for editing Bloom.html files, the HTML files used by Bloom Desktop to store digital books. It explains how to preserve Bloom’s required page, text, image, canvas, and layout structure.

In plain words
What is it for?
It supports changing book text, images, layouts, metadata, translations, and split-pane pages while checking that Bloom’s structure remains intact.
Why use it?
Direct HTML edits can make a Bloom book unreadable or break its page and translation data. The guide helps keep the file valid and includes a validator to check the result.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00069 $0.04307
Opus 5.5 $0.00028 $0.01723
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00861
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00431

Security

Grade A, and why

edit-bloom-book scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (validateBloomBook.mjs, validateBloomBook.test.mjs), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Edit Bloom book

Outcome

Edit a book's .htm file without breaking Bloom's structural expectations. Preserve the DOM schema Bloom relies on for page identity, multilingual text, images, canvas elements, xMatter regeneration, and split-pane layouts.

When To Use

  • The user wants to edit a book's .htm directly.
  • The user needs help repairing a damaged or hand-edited Bloom book.
  • The task involves changing text, image containers, layout wrappers, or metadata while keeping the book valid.
  • The task requires adding or repairing Bloom-specific elements such as .bloom-page, .bloom-translationGroup, .bloom-editable, .bloom-canvas, or split-pane containers.

Validator Script

  • Before and after structural edits, run the validator script in this skill folder.
  • Command:
node .claude/skills/edit-bloom-book/validateBloomBook.mjs path/to/Book.htm
  • It accepts multiple books:
node .claude/skills/edit-bloom-book/validateBloomBook.mjs book1.htm book2.htm
  • Current validator scope checks Bloom's core book schema and the common strict layout subtrees:
    • HTML parseability in a browser-style DOM
    • source-level root placement of .bloom-page elements
    • presence of #bloomDataDiv
    • presence of meta[name="BloomFormatVersion"]
    • at least one .bloom-page
    • every .bloom-page at body root level
    • non-empty unique page ids and expected page shell wrappers
    • non-empty lang on every .bloom-editable
    • .bloom-translationGroup / div.bloom-editable child structure
    • split-pane component/divider/inner wrapper structure
    • modern canvas-element image containers and legacy direct-image bloom-canvas structures
    • unique ids on p, img, and textarea
  • Treat validator failures as blockers for direct book edits.

Structural Grammar

This is the concise model the validator enforces. * means zero or more, ? means optional, and quoted class names mean the element must include that class, though it may also carry other Bloom classes.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
