What is 7-step-negotiation?

A seven-stage process for negotiating a sourcing deal: prepare, set targets, plan concessions, open, bargain, close, and measure. A category manager is responsible for a particular purchasing area, while a sourcing manager runs supplier selection and negotiation.

It is for preparing negotiation targets, defining opening positions, planning and logging concessions, managing bargaining, closing a deal, and conducting a post-negotiation review.

It gives a negotiation a repeatable sequence and records the work produced at each stage. This helps teams prepare deliberately, track concessions, and review the result afterward.
