brand-positioning

brand-positioning is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from brainbytes-dev/everything-claude-marketing. It costs 26 tokens per session (1,872 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A planning guide for deciding how a brand should be understood in its market and how it differs from competitors. It uses questions and established frameworks to define the audience, promise, category, and supporting proof.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to position a new brand or product, refine an existing position, enter a new audience or market, respond to changed competitors, or prepare for a merger or business pivot.
Why use it?
It helps when a brand feels generic, unclear, or out of step with how customers see it. It also gives teams a shared way to explain what makes the brand different.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00026 $0.01872
Opus 5 $0.00013 $0.00936
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00374
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00187

Security

Grade A, and why

brand-positioning scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Brand Positioning

When to Activate

  • Launching a new brand or product and need to define market position
  • The brand feels undefined, generic, or interchangeable with competitors
  • Entering a new market or audience segment
  • Competitors have shifted and the current position is no longer differentiated
  • A merger, acquisition, or pivot requires repositioning
  • Internal teams cannot articulate what makes the brand different
  • Customer perception research reveals a gap between intended and actual positioning

First Questions

  1. What category do you compete in? (And is that the right category?)
  2. Who is your ideal customer? Be specific — not "everyone."
  3. What is the single most important thing you want customers to believe about your brand?
  4. What proof do you have that this claim is true?
  5. Who are your top three competitors, and how do customers choose between you?
  6. If your brand disappeared tomorrow, what would customers miss most?
  7. What would you like customers to say about you that they are not saying today?

Positioning Statement Formula

Geoffrey Moore's Classic Framework

For [target customer]
who [statement of need or opportunity],
[brand name] is a [product category]
that [key benefit / reason to buy].
Unlike [competitive alternative],
our product [primary differentiation].

Example — Slack (early days): For teams who struggle with scattered communication across email and chat, Slack is a workplace messaging platform that brings all your conversations, tools, and files into one place. Unlike email or basic chat apps, Slack organizes communication into searchable channels by topic, project, or team.

Rules for Effective Positioning Statements

  • One primary benefit, not a laundry list
  • The differentiation must be provable, not aspirational
  • The competitive alternative should be what customers actually use today (may not be a direct competitor — could be "spreadsheets" or "doing nothing")
  • Keep it to one paragraph — if you cannot, the positioning is not focused enough

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
