trove-obsidian-markdown

trove-obsidian-markdown is a skill for Claude Code from bravew/trove. It costs 56 tokens per session (892 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow for creating and editing Obsidian notes using Markdown plus Obsidian features such as properties, links between notes, block references, embeds, and callouts.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create or make focused edits to notes in a confirmed Obsidian vault, while checking properties, links, block IDs, attachments, and the rendered result when possible.
Why use it?
It reduces the risk of breaking an existing vault's links, metadata, attachments, or local conventions. It also separates Obsidian syntax from ordinary repository Markdown.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00056 $0.00892
Opus 5.5 $0.00022 $0.00357
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00011 $0.00178
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00089

Security

Grade A, and why

trove-obsidian-markdown scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 98 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Obsidian Markdown

Create the requested note or make a focused edit using the vault's conventions. Use ordinary Markdown when the destination is a README or documentation site. The words "frontmatter", "tags", or "callout" alone do not establish a vault.

Workflow

  1. Establish the vault root and destination from the request and available filesystem context. Read the target and a few nearby notes before editing.
  2. Preserve existing property names and types, aliases, block IDs, link style, and unrelated content. Add only the properties and sections the task needs.
  3. Resolve note names, headings, blocks, and attachments against available files. Use a vault-relative path when duplicate names make a link ambiguous. Label intentional links to future notes; do not claim they already resolve.
  4. Use the syntax below. Read syntax.md for properties, table escaping, nested callouts, and embeds beyond the common cases.
  5. Parse any changed YAML frontmatter with an available YAML parser. Check link targets, block IDs, and attachment paths. Inspect reading view when available; otherwise report static verification and the rendering gap.

Common syntax

Prefer the vault's existing internal link style. Obsidian supports both wikilinks and Markdown links; do not convert a vault configured for Markdown links. For a new vault without a convention, wikilinks are a useful default. Use ordinary Markdown links for external URLs.

For a list or blockquote, put its block ID on a separate line after a blank line. Preserve stable IDs so other notes keep resolving their references.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
