labor.fun: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/add-signal/SKILL.md

add-signal is a skill for Claude Code from BreadchainCoop/labor.fun. It costs 53 tokens per session (1,751 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A Signal connection for Breadbrich Engels using signal-cli, a separate program that communicates with Signal through a local computer service. Signal has no official bot interface, so this setup uses that local service instead.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to send and receive Breadbrich Engels messages through Signal alongside other channels.
Why use it?
It connects Signal without a bot token, public web address, or extra Node package. You must install and run signal-cli locally.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00053 $0.01751
Opus 5 $0.00026 $0.00875
Sonnet 5 $0.00011 $0.00350
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00175

Security

Grade A, and why

add-signal scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Add Signal Channel

This skill adds Signal support to Breadbrich Engels, then walks through interactive setup.

Signal has no official bot API. The channel talks to a locally-running signal-cli daemon over its JSON-RPC interface (newline-delimited JSON over a TCP socket). The same socket carries both directions — outbound send requests and inbound receive notifications — so no public URL, webhook, or extra npm dependency is needed (Node's built-in net module does the work).

Phase 1: Pre-flight

Check if already applied

Check if src/channels/signal.ts exists. If it does, the code is in place — skip to Phase 2 (Setup).

If it does not exist, the channel code needs to be merged first. It lives on the framework's main (or a skill/signal branch). Pull it in, then validate:

npm install
npm run build
npx vitest run src/channels/signal.test.ts

All tests must pass and the build must be clean before continuing.

Phase 2: Setup

Install signal-cli on the host

signal-cli is a separate binary that owns the Signal account and speaks the JSON-RPC the channel connects to.

# macOS
brew install signal-cli

# Debian/Ubuntu (or download a release from github.com/AsamK/signal-cli/releases)
# signal-cli needs a JRE 21+ on the PATH

Verify: signal-cli --version

Register or link a Signal number

SIGNAL_ACCOUNT is the Signal phone number (E.164, e.g. +15551234567) that signal-cli controls. Two options — ask the user which they want:

Option A — link to an existing phone (recommended, fastest):

signal-cli link -n "breadbrich"
# Prints a tsdevice:/ URI. Render it as a QR code (e.g. paste into
# `qrencode -t ansiutf8 "<uri>"`) and scan it from the phone:
# Signal app → Settings → Linked Devices → Link New Device

The account number is the phone's own number.

Option B — register a dedicated number (needs a number that can receive an SMS/voice code, e.g. a Google Voice or Twilio number):

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
