What is discover-hardware?

A guide for safely finding allowed National Instruments data-acquisition devices and their input channels. NI-DAQmx is software for communicating with National Instruments measurement hardware; simulated and mock devices are also supported.

Checking the server, listing available devices, identifying whether a device is mock, simulated, or physical, and selecting an explicitly returned device.

It prevents guessed device names, unapproved hardware access, and treating discovery or self-tests as proof that wiring is electrically safe.

State that this is an independent community project. Call get_server_status, then list_devices. Ask the user to select an explicit returned device before calling details or channel listing. Report whether it is mock/simulated/physical and show only server-returned allowed names. Never invent a name, broaden an allowlist, reset a device, or treat discovery/self-test as proof of electrical safety.
