cnc-safety

cnc-safety is a skill for Claude Code from brs077/CNC-design-control-MCP. It costs 40 tokens per session (321 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

Safety controls for a computer-controlled CNC machine, including an emergency stop, a controlled pause, and cancellation of manual movement.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use the emergency stop for immediate danger, feed hold for a resumable controlled pause, and jog cancel to stop only an active manual move. After an emergency stop, it explains how to clear the alarm or re-home the machine.
Why use it?
It provides the correct response when cutting or movement becomes dangerous, such as during a collision, fire, breakage, or wrong-direction jog.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00040 $0.00321
Opus 5 $0.00020 $0.00161
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00064
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00032

Security

Grade A, and why

cnc-safety scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

CNC Safety Controls

Critical safety tools for stopping machine motion. Use these immediately when needed — do not hesitate.

Available MCP Tools

  • emergency_stopEMERGENCY STOP — Immediately halts ALL motion via GRBL soft reset (0x18). Machine enters Alarm state. Use for any dangerous situation.
  • feed_hold — Controlled deceleration to stop. Safer than emergency stop for non-critical pauses. Job can be resumed.
  • jog_cancel — Cancel active jog motion only.

When to Use

Situation Tool Effect
Collision / danger / fire / breakage emergency_stop Instant halt, alarm state
Need to pause safely feed_hold Controlled decel, resumable
Wrong jog direction jog_cancel Stops jog only

After Emergency Stop

  1. Machine is in Alarm state
  2. Use unlock_machine ($X) to clear the alarm
  3. Or use home_machine ($H) to re-home
  4. Check machine position and workpiece before continuing

Important

  • Emergency stop is ALWAYS available when a port is connected
  • Never delay calling emergency_stop if there is any danger
  • Feed hold preserves position; emergency stop may lose position tracking
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

cnc-safety is a skill published in the GitHub repository brs077/CNC-design-control-MCP (1 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 40 tokens to every session and 321 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
