frontend-design

frontend-design is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from bugrabilge/bilge-development-kit. It costs 37 tokens per session (1,536 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to planning frontend interfaces and code structure, including components, design systems, responsive layouts, and user interactions. The frontend is the part of an application that users see and operate.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to organize UI components, make interaction and layout decisions, build design systems, improve responsive behavior, and review usability.
Why use it?
It helps prevent confusing interfaces, inconsistent visuals, weak error messages, and layouts that fail on different screen sizes.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00037 $0.01536
Opus 5 $0.00018 $0.00768
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00307
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00154

Security

Grade A, and why

frontend-design scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Frontend Design

"Great frontend design is invisible; users notice only when it fails."

When to Use

  • Architecting the component structure of a frontend application
  • Making UI/UX decisions during implementation
  • Building or extending a design system
  • Planning responsive layouts and interaction patterns
  • Reviewing frontend code for design consistency and usability

UI/UX Principles for Developers

Clarity Over Cleverness

  • Every element should have an obvious purpose
  • Labels, buttons, and links should describe their action ("Save Draft" not "Submit")
  • Use progressive disclosure: show only what is needed at each step
  • Error states must explain what happened and what the user should do next

Consistency

  • Same action should look and behave the same everywhere
  • Use consistent spacing, typography, and color throughout the application
  • Follow platform conventions (e.g., confirmation dialogs, form validation patterns)
  • Maintain consistent terminology across the entire product

Feedback and Responsiveness

  • Every user action must produce visible feedback within 100ms
  • Use loading indicators for operations over 300ms
  • Use skeleton screens instead of spinners for content loading
  • Optimistic updates for low-risk actions (likes, toggles); confirm for destructive ones
  • Disable buttons after submission to prevent double-clicks

Forgiveness

  • Support undo for destructive actions instead of "Are you sure?" dialogs
  • Auto-save form progress where possible
  • Preserve user input on navigation (back button should not lose form data)
  • Provide clear, non-punishing error recovery paths

Component Architecture

Atomic Design Hierarchy

  • Atoms: Smallest units (Button, Input, Label, Icon, Badge)
  • Molecules: Combinations of atoms (SearchBar = Input + Button, FormField = Label + Input + ErrorText)
  • Organisms: Complex sections (Header, Sidebar, UserCard, DataTable)
  • Templates: Page-level layouts with placeholder content
  • Pages: Templates with real data connected

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

frontend-design is a skill published in the GitHub repository bugrabilge/bilge-development-kit (10 stars, last pushed 4mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 37 tokens to every session and 1,536 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
