journey-ai

journey-ai is a skill for Claude Code from butterbase-ai/butterbase-skills. It costs 62 tokens per session (548 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guided setup stage for adding language-model or text-embedding features to a Butterbase app. It configures the default AI model and can use your own provider key.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when a planned app needs chat, language-model calls, or embeddings, which are numerical representations of text used for search and similarity.
Why use it?
It turns the AI choices in an app plan into configured settings and checks that the AI service responds.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00062 $0.00548
Opus 5 $0.00031 $0.00274
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00110
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00055

Security

Grade A, and why

journey-ai scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 13d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Journey: AI

Stage 3f of the guided journey. Configure AI gateway defaults (model, BYOK).

When to use

  • Dispatched by journey when current_stage: ai.
  • Directly via /butterbase-skills:journey-ai.
  • Skipped (annotated (n/a)) if the plan has no AI section.

Preflight

If docs/butterbase/03-preflight.md is missing, older than 24 hours, or 00-state.md has app_id: null, invoke butterbase-skills:journey-preflight first. Wait for it to return successfully before proceeding.

Inputs

  • docs/butterbase/02-plan.md — the AI section.
  • docs/butterbase/00-state.md — for app_id.

Procedure

  1. Refresh docs. Call butterbase_docs with topic: "ai". For BYOK and model lists, also WebFetch https://docs.butterbase.ai/ai. Skip if cache is fresh.

  2. Read the AI section. Print it back: "About to configure AI: default model=<m>, BYOK=<yes/no>. Proceed?". Wait for yes.

  3. Invoke butterbase-skills:ai via the Skill tool with the AI plan and app_id. The wrapped skill calls manage_ai action: update_config (and per-provider key updates if BYOK).

  4. Smoke: call manage_ai action: chat with a tiny prompt ("say ok") to confirm the gateway responds.

  5. Append one line to docs/butterbase/04-build-log.md: <ISO timestamp> ai manage_ai ok

  6. Tick - [x] ai in 00-state.md, set current_stage: to the next unchecked stage.

  7. Return to journey orchestrator (or ask "Continue to the next stage? (yes/no)").

Outputs

  • Configured AI gateway defaults.
  • One line in 04-build-log.md.

Anti-patterns

  • ❌ Echoing BYOK keys back to the user.
  • ❌ Picking a model not in manage_ai action: list_models — list first.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
