openrouter

openrouter is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Buzzmatic/awesome-agent-skills. It costs 97 tokens per session (1,226 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A unified API for sending requests to many AI language models through one service, including models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, and Mistral. It supports individual and bulk chat requests, model listing, and generation statistics and cost retrieval.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to send chat completions, process batches of prompts from JSONL files, list available models, and retrieve usage, generation, and cost data.
Why use it?
It avoids building separate integrations for each model provider and gives teams one interface for comparing or switching models.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00097 $0.01226
Opus 5 $0.00048 $0.00613
Sonnet 5 $0.00019 $0.00245
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00123

Security

Grade A, and why

openrouter scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 3 executable files (scripts/chat.py, scripts/get_generation.py, scripts/list_models.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

OpenRouter API Skill

Access hundreds of AI models through a single unified API.

Quick Start

All scripts:

  • Accept an optional --output-dir parameter (default: output/)
  • Save raw JSON and processed data to that directory
  • Return JSON with {"output_files": [...], "summary": "..."}

Environment Setup

Set the required environment variable:

export OPENROUTER_API_KEY="sk-or-..."

Core Operations

Chat Completions (Single Request)

Send a single chat completion request:

python skills/openrouter/scripts/chat.py \
  --model "anthropic/claude-3-opus" \
  --messages '[{"role":"user","content":"Summarize the benefits of SEO"}]' \
  --max-tokens 500 \
  --temperature 0.7

With system prompt:

python skills/openrouter/scripts/chat.py \
  --model "openai/gpt-4" \
  --messages '[{"role":"system","content":"You are an SEO expert"},{"role":"user","content":"Explain keyword clustering"}]' \
  --max-tokens 1000

Chat Completions (Bulk Mode)

Process multiple prompts from a JSONL file:

python skills/openrouter/scripts/chat.py \
  --model "openai/gpt-4-turbo" \
  --messages-file data/processed/prompts.jsonl \
  --max-tokens 500 \
  --batch-size 10 \
  --rate-limit 60

JSONL format (one request per line):

{"messages":[{"role":"user","content":"Analyze keyword: seo tools"}],"id":"kw_001"}
{"messages":[{"role":"user","content":"Analyze keyword: backlink checker"}],"id":"kw_002"}

With tools/function calling:

python skills/openrouter/scripts/chat.py \
  --model "openai/gpt-4-turbo" \
  --messages '[{"role":"user","content":"Get weather for Berlin"}]' \
  --tools-file tools.json \
  --tool-choice auto

With structured JSON output:

python skills/openrouter/scripts/chat.py \
  --model "openai/gpt-4-turbo" \
--messages '[{"role":"user","content":"Extract entities from: Apple released iPhone 15"}]' \
  --response-format '{"type":"json_schema","json_schema":{"name":"entities","schema":{"type":"object","properties":{"entities":{"type":"array"}}}}}'

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

openrouter is a skill published in the GitHub repository Buzzmatic/awesome-agent-skills (1 stars, last pushed 2mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 97 tokens to every session and 1,226 once invoked, about $0.0005 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
