rls-patterns

rls-patterns is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from bybren-llc/a-safe-pulse. It costs 60 tokens per session (1,680 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of database rules for applying PostgreSQL Row Level Security to queries and API operations. Row Level Security limits which rows each user or role can read or change.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for writing raw SQL queries, building data-accessing API routes, handling database webhooks, and protecting user or administrator data.
Why use it?
It helps prevent one user from accessing another user's data and reduces risks such as SQL injection and missing access checks.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00060 $0.01680
Opus 5 $0.00030 $0.00840
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00336
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00168

Security

Grade A, and why

rls-patterns scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

RLS Patterns Skill

TEMPLATE: This skill uses {{PLACEHOLDER}} tokens. Replace with your project values before use.

Purpose

Enforce Row Level Security (RLS) patterns for all database operations. This skill ensures data isolation and prevents cross-user data access at the database level.

Current Tech Stack

  • Database: PostgreSQL (production) via pg (node-postgres) -- direct SQL queries
  • Dev Database: SQLite via SQLITE_DB_PATH for local development
  • Connection: src/db/connection.ts exports query() and getClient()
  • Migrations: Raw SQL files in src/db/migrations/ (auto-run on startup)
  • No ORM: Direct SQL queries only (no ORM)

When This Skill Applies

  • Writing any database query (raw SQL via query() or getClient())
  • Creating or modifying Express API routes that access the database
  • Implementing webhook handlers that write to the database
  • Working with user data, tokens, or planning sessions
  • Accessing admin-only tables

Critical Rules

NEVER Do This

// FORBIDDEN - Unparameterized queries are SQL injection risks
const result = await query(`SELECT * FROM linear_tokens WHERE org_id = '${orgId}'`);

// FORBIDDEN - Direct queries without considering data isolation
const tokens = await query('SELECT * FROM linear_tokens');

ALWAYS Do This

import { query, getClient } from '{{DB_CONNECTION_IMPORT}}';

// CORRECT - Parameterized queries
const result = await query(
  'SELECT * FROM linear_tokens WHERE organization_id = $1',
  [orgId]
);

// CORRECT - Transactions with getClient() for multi-step operations
const client = await getClient();
try {
  await client.query('BEGIN');
  await client.query(
    'INSERT INTO planning_sessions (id, org_id, status) VALUES ($1, $2, $3)',
    [sessionId, orgId, 'active']
  );
  await client.query('COMMIT');
} catch (error) {
  await client.query('ROLLBACK');
  throw error;
} finally {
  client.release();
}

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

rls-patterns is a skill published in the GitHub repository bybren-llc/a-safe-pulse (9 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 60 tokens to every session and 1,680 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-04.
