byted-tos-file-process

byted-tos-file-process is a skill for Claude Code from bytedance/agentkit-samples. It costs 97 tokens per session (921 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A file archiving tool for objects stored in Volcengine TOS, a cloud object-storage service. It can create or unpack formats such as ZIP, TAR, and Zstandard archives through asynchronous jobs.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to compress several stored objects into an archive, extract an archive, or package files for distribution.
Why use it?
It avoids downloading files just to bundle or extract them, and lets large storage operations run as background jobs.

About the project

bytedance/agentkit-samples is a collection of examples and tutorials for Volcengine AgentKit, an AI-agent development platform for building, deploying, and operating agent applications. Developers use the samples to learn agent creation, multi-agent collaboration, memory, retrieval, MCP integrations, media generation, customer service, and other workflows. The catalogue skills provide agent workflows based on these examples.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00097 $0.00921
Opus 5 $0.00048 $0.00461
Sonnet 5 $0.00019 $0.00184
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00092

Security

Grade A, and why

byted-tos-file-process scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 3 executable files (scripts/file_compress.py, scripts/file_uncompress.py, scripts/tos_jobs_client.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Volcengine TOS File Process

Compress and uncompress file objects stored in Volcengine TOS through the TOS gateway's file_jobs API.

Setup (once per environment)

Install dependencies on first use:

cd {baseDir}
pip install -r {baseDir}/requirements.txt

Then run scripts with Python 3.7+:

python3 {baseDir}/scripts/<script>.py <args>

Environment Variables

This skill relies on the TOS identity declared in the metadata block. Common runtime variables are:

Environment Variable Required Description
TOS_ACCESS_KEY Yes TOS access key ID
TOS_SECRET_KEY Yes TOS secret access key
TOS_ENDPOINT Yes TOS endpoint URL
TOS_REGION Yes TOS region
TOS_BUCKET Yes Source bucket that stores the file objects
TOS_OBJECT_KEY No Source object key. Can be overridden with --key or --keys
TOS_SECURITY_TOKEN No STS session token when using temporary credentials

Quick start

# Compress multiple TOS objects into a zip archive and wait for completion
python3 {baseDir}/scripts/file_compress.py \
  --keys file1.jpg,file2.txt \
  --format zip \
  --output-key output/archive.zip \
  --wait

# Uncompress a zip archive and wait for completion
python3 {baseDir}/scripts/file_uncompress.py \
  --key output/archive.zip \
  --prefix output/unzipped/ \
  --wait

Available scripts

Script Purpose
scripts/file_compress.py Submit an async FileCompress job via the TOS gateway's file_jobs API that compresses TOS objects into an archive (zip/tar/zst). Supports --wait to poll until completion.
scripts/file_uncompress.py Submit an async FileUncompress job via the TOS gateway's file_jobs API that extracts an archive in TOS. Supports --wait to poll until completion.
scripts/tos_jobs_client.py Shared client for TOS gateway file_jobs APIs using pre-signed URL auth.

Rules

  • TOS gateway API: This skill uses the TOS gateway's file_jobs API with job_type=FileCompress or job_type=FileUncompress. Authentication is handled via pre_signed_url from the TOS Python SDK and the TOS identity declared in the metadata block above.
  • Supported archive formats: Compress supports zip, tar, and zst. The output object key suffix must match the chosen format (.zip, .tar, .zst).
  • Async job model: The scripts create async jobs and optionally wait for completion with the --wait flag.
  • Language: Reply in the user's preferred language.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
