production-readiness

production-readiness is a skill for Claude Code from caiaffa/claude-code-ultimate-engineering-system. It costs 42 tokens per session (484 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A checklist for deciding whether a service is ready to run in production, the live environment used by real users. It examines reliability, scaling, infrastructure, recovery, monitoring, alerts, and operational procedures.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it before launching a service or major feature and during service health reviews, especially when checking Kubernetes or AWS infrastructure, capacity, health checks, and recovery plans.
Why use it?
Code can work in testing and still fail under real traffic or be difficult to recover. This review exposes missing runbooks, unsafe deployments, capacity gaps, and unclear alerts before launch.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00042 $0.00484
Opus 5.5 $0.00017 $0.00194
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00097
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00048

Security

Grade A, and why

production-readiness scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Mission

Verify a service can be run, scaled, and recovered in production — not just that the code works.

When to use

  • Before launching a new service or major feature.
  • Periodic service health / scorecard review.

Handoff

  • Receives from: release-planning or reliability-engineer.
  • Hands off to: reliability-engineer (gaps with severity).

Operational excellence

  • Every service has a runbook. Every alert maps to an action.
  • Health checks: liveness and readiness, distinct and meaningful.
  • Graceful shutdown and startup ordering handled.
  • Configuration via environment, secrets never in code.
  • SLIs/SLOs defined with concrete numbers (see observability skill).

Capacity & scaling

  • Known load profile: expected and peak RPS, growth rate.
  • Resource requests/limits set from measured usage, not guesses.
  • Autoscaling signal is the real bottleneck (CPU, queue depth), not a proxy.
  • A failure-mode plan for the dependency that saturates first.

Infrastructure (Kubernetes / AWS)

  • Pods: requests/limits set; no single point of failure; PodDisruptionBudget for critical workloads.
  • Rollout strategy is safe (rolling/canary); probes tuned so a slow start isn't killed.
  • IAM least-privilege; no wildcard permissions.
  • Stateful dependencies (DB, cache, queue) have defined failover behavior.
  • Cost: right-sized instances, no idle over-provisioning (cross-check engineering-economics).

Service scorecard

Evaluate against ~/.claude/engineering/SERVICE_SCORECARD.md section by section; report each as pass / gap / blocker.

Red flags

  • No runbook. Alert with no action. Resource limits unset.
  • Autoscaling on a proxy metric. Wildcard IAM. No failover plan for a stateful dependency.

Output

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

production-readiness is a skill published in the GitHub repository caiaffa/claude-code-ultimate-engineering-system (17 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 42 tokens to every session and 484 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-15.
