stelow-workflow-architecture-alternatives

stelow-workflow-architecture-alternatives is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from calionauta/stelow. It costs 79 tokens per session (2,629 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A method for exploring several different ways to build a system before choosing one. It compares construction directions and can produce a combined option when there is more than one.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it during architecture planning to generate and compare implementation directions, either inside the Stelow workflow or on its own.
Why use it?
It helps separate exploration from commitment, so a team can see alternatives and trade-offs before settling on an architecture.

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one. Also seen: mentions subagents.

Needs its repository: it reads a path above its own folder, which exists only inside the repository. The line is **Tools:** See `../stelow-workflow-orchestrator/references/cli-tools/subagents.md` for subagent patterns..

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00079 $0.02629
Opus 5.5 $0.00032 $0.01052
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00526
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00263

Security

Grade A, and why

stelow-workflow-architecture-alternatives scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Architecture Alternatives

Tools: See ../stelow-workflow-orchestrator/references/cli-tools/subagents.md for subagent patterns.

Overview

This skill executes the Architecture Alternatives phase: diverging construction directions before any commitment. It is the structural sibling of interaction alternatives. Interaction asks how it behaves. Architecture asks how it is built.

How to Load

Via Orchestrator (recommended)

The orchestrator reads this file directly when needed.

Standalone

This skill works standalone. Use the Input Detection section below to tell the skill what construction decision to explore. Follow the instructions inline.

Standalone awareness: when inside stelow, reads exploration breadth from the workflow config (exploration.count, exploration.hybrid). When standalone, defaults to 3 directions + hybrid. If the config is not reachable, pass the count explicitly.

Process

Step 0: Read exploration breadth and choose direction count.

Exploration breadth controls how many construction directions are compared. A hybrid synthesis is produced whenever more than one direction exists, independent of the count.

Count Directions explored Hybrid
1 1 direct direction only. No divergence. Trivial changes by explicit override only. skip
2 2 most-differentiated directions yes
3 3 directions yes
4 4 directions yes
5 5 directions yes
# Inside stelow, read from workflow config; standalone defaults to 3 + hybrid.
COUNT="${EXPLORATION_COUNT:-3}"
HYBRID="${EXPLORATION_HYBRID:-yes}"
if [ "$COUNT" -le 1 ]; then
  HYBRID="skip"
fi

Direction seeds (pick the COUNT most-differentiated for the problem; never pad with near-duplicates to hit the count):

  • A — Conventional build. The safest established construction for this space: boring splits, synchronous calls, single ownership. Optimize for predictability and onboarding ease.
  • B — Decoupled flow. Reframe the construction around events, queues, or streams. Optimize for independence of parts and evolution speed.
  • C — Intelligence-led. Use models, predictions, or realtime sync to collapse work the user would otherwise do. Accept implementation complexity only where it meaningfully improves the outcome.
  • D — Radical reduction. Fewest moving parts that still deliver the committed scopes. Collapse services, merge stores, defer abstractions. Optimize for clarity and reversibility.
  • E — Power-operator build. Optimize for expert throughput: CLIs, SDKs, batch paths, dense contracts, minimal ceremony. Assume the operator knows the domain.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

stelow-workflow-architecture-alternatives is a skill published in the GitHub repository calionauta/stelow (14 stars, last pushed 9d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 79 tokens to every session and 2,629 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-04.
