validate-iban-before-payment

validate-iban-before-payment is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from cammac-creator/ibanforge. It costs 139 tokens per session (2,035 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A server-side check for an IBAN, the international bank account number used to identify a bank account. It verifies the number's structure and check digits and can return the bank, BIC, and relevant SEPA details.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it before payouts, refunds, supplier payments, or importing bank details from forms, CSV files, or migrated records.
Why use it?
It helps catch invalid or unsuitable bank details before sending money or saving a payee. Keeping the check on the server also protects the API key from browser users.

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

Fable 5.1 $0.00139 $0.02035
Opus 5.5 $0.00056 $0.00814

Security

Grade A, and why

validate-iban-before-payment scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 103 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Validate an IBAN before a payment

IBANforge checks the structure and the check digits of an IBAN and names the bank behind it, with its BIC and the source of that answer. Where it reads the national register, it also says whether the bank code is allocated at all. For a SEPA bank it resolves, it gives the SEPA schemes that reach it and whether the EPC Verification of Payee (VoP) register lists the bank as ready.

When to use it

  • Before a payout, a refund or a supplier payment to an IBAN that has not been paid before.
  • When a supplier, customer or employee record receives new bank details: a form, a CSV import, an ERP migration.
  • When the code needs the bank name, the BIC or the SEPA reachability behind an IBAN.

Call the API from the server. Its CORS policy answers only IBANforge's own origins, so a browser on another site cannot read the response, and a key placed in browser code is public anyway.

1. Try it without a key (development)

curl -s -X POST https://api.ibanforge.com/v1/iban/validate \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"iban":"DE89370400440532013000"}'

The keyless trial serves 25 validations a week per source address (IPv6 counted per /64), on this route only. The week is the ISO week in UTC, reset on Monday 00:00 UTC. The answer carries a trial block with calls_left_this_week and resets_at.

The trial is for trying the API, not for production: every call from one server draws on the same address, and once it is spent the route answers 402 until the reset. Send a real IBAN: an empty {} body is the x402 discovery probe and always answers 402.

2. Production: a free API key

curl -s -X POST https://api.ibanforge.com/v1/keys/generate \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"source":"skill"}'

No e-mail and no card are needed. The api_key in the answer (ifk_ and 64 hexadecimal characters) is shown once: store it as a server-side secret. The source field only records where the key came from; the call works without a body.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

validate-iban-before-payment is a skill published in the GitHub repository cammac-creator/ibanforge (3 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 139 tokens to every session and 2,035 once invoked, about $0.0006 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-29.
