assignment-page-builder

assignment-page-builder is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Canvas-LMS-MCP/canvas-teacher-mcp. It costs 123 tokens per session (4,152 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A method for creating a Canvas assignment or lab page from shared assignment content. It uses the same information for the student instructions and the page, including examples, input and output details, restrictions, tests, and grading criteria.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when preparing coding assignments or labs in Canvas, including pages that link to code repositories or include slide decks.
Why use it?
It reduces mismatches between the written instructions and the online assignment page, and avoids manually writing page markup.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00123 $0.04152
Opus 5 $0.00062 $0.02076
Sonnet 5 $0.00025 $0.00830
Haiku 4.5 $0.00012 $0.00415

Security

Grade A, and why

assignment-page-builder scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

assignment-page-builder — GLOBAL page-building methodology

System map (START HERE): CourseGlobalWorkflow/README.md — the 3 layers (local conductor / global builder / policy+config), per-type conductors, and the assignment-creation workflow. This skill is the AUTHORING METHOD (how to write page content + finalize order); it does not re-describe the architecture.

The pairing of:

  • CODE (machinery): $CANVAS_LMS_ROOT/.claude/code/canvas_core/assignment_page_builder.py — the SKELETON. Universal: make the instruction gdoc in place, clean-view embeds, rich-format HTML helpers, slide embed (single or list), Canvas push (canvas_rest), make_page() orchestrator (returns out["html"]). No type-specifics.
  • BUILDERS (content): turn an asmt dict into doc_blocks + canvas_summary_html and call skel.make_page(...). git / program → git_page.py · NB / notebook → nb_page.py (both GLOBAL + config-driven — read course_config.load(<course>), NO per-course code). Per-course plugins remain only for not-yet-migrated types: CSCI-19A jshell_lab.py (JShell lab — no global equivalent exists). The git/Java plugin gh_assignment.py was absorbed into git_page.py and deleted 2026-07-31; its seven course-locked features (signature, what_to_complete, io_block/io_lines/io_table, input_spec, concept, guide_steps, 3-level RUBRIC_LEVELS) are global now.
    • flowchart lab (draw.io PNG submission) needs NO dedicated builder. It has no special page items (no autograder test-table / restrictions / commit rubric / repo link), so a plugin would add nothing. Author doc_blocks + canvas_summary_html with the skeleton helpers (section/rich_ul/rich_ol/callout/slide_embed) and call skel.make_page directly — the generic page path. Only add a builder if flowchart pages later grow a genuinely shared special section.
  • THIS SKILL (how): the authoring method + finalize order every builder follows.
  • POLICY (separate): grading split, published:false, dates → CourseGlobalWorkflow/ only (referenced, never copied here).

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
